As viewers are no doubt aware by now, ABC has decided to cancel their Forever TV show after one season of 22 episodes. Series star Ioan Gruffudd took to Instagram to send a message to the show’s loyal viewers.
He wrote:
My dear friends, fans, supporters.
Tonight, as you all now know, I received a phone call that I was hoping not to receive, and to be honest I really wasn’t expecting it. I knew the numbers hadn’t been great, but I also knew the studio and the network both loved the show, and of course that it had an incredible fan base…so I thought we were in with a pretty good chance.
But sadly no, this time the cards weren’t dealt in our favor. Show business is like that. Hell, life is like that. You ride to the top of the wave and then you come crashing down again. I asked Alice to send out the sad news because I was a little bit shaken up and needed time to gather my thoughts.
So I sat down and started reading the thousands of Tweets in response to the announcement. And the more I read, the more I couldn’t believe it. The love, the sense of solidarity, the hope, the kindness, the support. Not just for the show, but for each other. And slowly I began to focus on what we had gained in the past year, rather than what we had lost in the last five minutes. I was overcome by a sense of gratitude. To have met you all and to have you all rooting for me and the show. At having a chance to play the role of my dreams, even if it was only for a year. To have been given the chance to bring Henry to life.
Watching the interaction of the FOREVER fans come together and share their love for the show has been breath-taking. It was you guys who held me up when I thought I could no longer go on. (Those days were LONG!) You made me smile when you pointed out the little things I did on screen that I thought had gone unnoticed. You gave me confidence when I accidentally found myself reading less than shining reviews. You were always with me, every step of the way, waving your flags, shouting your support for the show. It’s been an incredible, wonderful year, one that I will never, ever forget.
And guess what? The memories belong to us. We get to keep them ‘forever!’ Thanks again a million times for your unwavering support. Stay strong, be brave, and show kindness as often as you can!

What do you think? What do you think of Gruffudd’s message? Why do you think Forever has such a passionate viewership yet the ratings weren’t very good?
Like Mr. Grufford, I was so disappointed to learn that Forever was cancelled. I’ve always been looking forward to watch it on On Demand. I was unable to watch it during its actual airtime because of my work schedule.
Kudos to the writers who were able to create such story each episode. I kept praying that the producers would bring it back in fall.
I feel that Ioan Gruffudd’s message to his fans were truly from his HEART,and it takes a great man such as him self to take his personal time out for us,I cried when I read it, He’s a remarkable ACTOR,a VERY CARING MAN, I will miss him and the cast of FOREVER for a very long time, just as millions will. Thank you Ioan for your heartfelt feeling ,YOUR TRULY A REMARKABLE MAN. Thank you for being yourself.
I really enjoyed this show and can’t believe it’s been cancelled. I hope they bring it back onm another network or on cable. I am so tired of reality shows. Who cares how desparate some wives are whereever they come from, or some actor, actress, singer, or athlete who can’t get a job so we have to have a show about their personal lives and their relatives too! I mean who cares? This show was an entertaining hour of escapism. The characters were well written and the actors were great. It made you really care about the subplots (i.e. whether… Read more »
Loved his message. He really paid attention to us. Too bad the powers that be did not. Not too many good wholesome shows left for families to watch.
Crap! Is right

Forever was a great show . I’ll miss it. I hope Netflix picks it up..
So sad this wonderful series has been cancelled I work most evenings so record this I don’t know how this reflects on the ratings and possibly other fans do the same . Please reconsider its cancellation, best thing on TV .
I’m surprised it was cancelled, a unique twist of a show that had fantastic stars. Too bad the network voted against, they really need more shows like Forever if they want to compete with cbs.
Great performances by the cast , really loved Forever something different to the norm, hope to see something great in the future from these actors. Will miss watching each week.
I watched every episode and enjoyed the story line very much. Due to my work schedule, I was never able to watch it on TV, it was always online. I am very dissapointed to learn, it was cancelled.
Really hated to hear Forever had been cancelled. I loved it.
I thought this show was the best new show of the new season. I can’t understand why it was cancelled! Perhaps if it was in a better time slot it would have done better? The writing was superb and the story line kept you at the edge of your seat. The actors ALL played their part to perfection and were believable and likable, which is a lot more than I can say for some of the other shows where the acting and story lines are really unbearable to even watch. I hope it’s picked up by another channel or even… Read more »
Pretty upset to see the end of Forever. Was expecting more serious. Was the only crime series I watched on tv for a long while. Still hoping ABC might change their mind or some other producer could pick this up???
I am absolutely disappointed that the show is not coming back. how you could you leave us all hanging like this when we have been so faithful every week from the beginning? Please reconsider and take some of the ridiculously filthy shows off instead. Quality actors and actresses that made this show so special Are what is needed for TV enjoyment. A FOREVER fan
really liked the series. Surprised it’s gone. Crap!
