The commission further demonstrates Sky’s commitment to offering customers more high-quality original programming and follows the announcement of Catherine the Great and Curfew earlier today. All three Sky Original Productions start filming this year.

This series picks up where the second finished with the death of Governor Munk hanging over the town. Two new police officers are in town from Oslo, sent to Fortitude to investigate the murder, and soon learn the inhabitants of the most staggeringly beautiful place on earth have a lot to overcome…
Star of Fortitude Richard Dormer said: “I can’t wait to get back to this place. I love this world. A brilliant cast and crew. Returning to Fortitude always feels like coming home. And my old friend Dan is waiting for me. And he’s just got this big grin on his face.”
Sky’s head of drama Anne Mensah said: “We know fans of Fortitude all over the world really love this show and we can’t wait to welcome it back. Simon Donald’s created this four-hour special event, which is the perfect ending to the most enigmatic, surprising, shocking and emotional series we’ve ever had on Sky Atlantic.”
Series creator Simon Donald said: “”Fortitude has gripped my imagination like an icy blast to the heart. It’s wonderful to be back for a last dance under the blizzard stars in the cold, dark night and find out who lives, who dies and who goes completely, barking arctic crazy…”
1.4 million viewers tuned in to each episode of the second series last year, which was described as “wholly immersive” by The Observer and “stunning and brilliantly acted” by Empire. Not only a huge hit in the UK, Fortitude has also been enjoyed by millions around the world. Series one and two have been sold to more than 200 broadcasters internationally, making it Sky Vision’s bestselling programme.
2017 was a record-breaking year for Sky Original Productions and entertainment on Sky, which included Sky’s best-performing original series to date in Riviera. This year, Sky will bring customers over 50 Sky Original Productions, including 24 returning series and brand-new commissions, such as the most recommended television show of 2018 in Britannia, which launched last week on Sky Atlantic.
Sky Original Productions feature some of the best names in the UK industry and in 2018 British talent on screen across Sky channels includes Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch, Suranne Jones, Lennie James, James Nesbitt, David Morrissey, Dawn French, Noel Clarke, Ashley Walters and more.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Fortitude TV series? Does ending it with season three seem about right to you? If it were up to you, would Fortitude be cancelled or renewed for season four on Amazon and Sky? Sound off, in the comments.
I binge-watched the first two seasons on Amazon Prime over a long weekend, and I will be sorely disappointed if Amazon fails to pick up the third season! I was hooked in the first ten minutes of the first episode of Season 1! This production had/has it all: atmosphere, superb acting and casting, drama, suspense, horror and, best of all, an incredibly beautiful yet wild and frightening setting! I can’t wait for Season 3!
Can’t wait for Fortitude to return excellent cast and scenery I have learned so much from Google on where it’s filmed and the beauty of the region I have become a big fan of the star R.D. from his superb acting and the story line gives you alot to think about.
Yes please Amazon? please?
Not my normal type of show, but I love Fortitude. Our whole family gets together for each episode and we vow to watch it together. Please bring Season 4.
Awesome glad at least one more season. Great show.
I just happened on this quirky little show and fell in love. I saw Dennis Quaid on some show and when he said where he was working…I said out loud…I wonder if Fortitude is coming back. Then he talked about it. I am THRILLED!!
I am disappointed that’s Fortitude is ending. I’ve been waiting for it to begin again. And only 4 episodes? It’s seems quite a few series shows I become interested in end far too soon. I don’t understand, especially if ratings are good. What gives?
This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Not happy it’s ending but thrilled they’re not gonna leave us hanging. Too many good shows get cancelled without closure. Can’t wait to see season 3.
Really enjoyed this show. I would hate to see it end. Great plot. Great location. Great actors. Hope for more…
The show is great – found it on Amazon – had no idea what it was about; and it was totally engrossing no pun intended. Great acting with wonderful surprises I wish it was going to be more than a mini series for season three but I’ll take what we can get
Watch did during some very freezing winter nights in the United States so it was perfect
I’m going to look for a Facebook page to see if either fans are interested as well
I enjoyed the first two seasons of Fortitude – and then Hildur was senselessly murdered. The character who represented hope and strength for this town gone. I personally do not care if Amazon picks up the final season – as I will not view it.
Absolutely love Fortitude! Having just visited Iceland for the first time last March I was intrigued by the landscape. My husband and I found the story line ALL consuming I could not wait to get home from work to watch more episodes’. The series really could go on so many characters have not been explored.
Fortitude, given the opportunity, has the potential to become another X-Files or Fringe. The Nordic Noir atmosphere is immensely intriguing. Add to the mix an a superb cast and a mysterious, provocative story line, and you’ve really discovered something special. The problem is, bean counters have absolutely no idea as to the value of what lies before them!
I thought season 2 would be the end, so welcome a season 3 even if it is brief. Hopefully Amazon will stream season 3. And it makes me appreciate that winter could be worse than where I live.
I love the mystery, the tension and feeling of isolation in this series which make it so different. The action and play are great, It should go on.
