As has become the norm, ABC didn’t announce if General Hospital had been renewed for another year but the show wasn’t cancelled either. They just kept it on the air. The network did cancel The Chew (which replaced All My Children in 2011) so they could expand the Good Morning America brand with GMA Day. Clearly, the ABC execs aren’t afraid to shake up the status quo again. Will General Hospital survive to see a 57th season for the 2019-20 broadcast season? How will it do in the ratings? Stay tuned.
Debuting on April 1st of 1963, General Hospital revolves around the loves, lives, and deaths of the people of Port Charles, New York. The current season’s cast includes Maurice Benard, Tamara Braun, Steve Burton, Matt Cohen, William deVry, Chad Duell, Michael Easton, Hayley Erin, Genie Francis, Nancy Lee Grahn, Elizabeth Hendrickson, Briana Nicole Henry, Rebecca Herbst, Roger Howarth, Finola Hughes, Lisa LoCicero, Eden McCoy, Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco, Emme Rylan, Michelle Stafford, Kirsten Storms, Donnell Turner, Maura West, and Laura Wright.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available. You can see how the ratings for the four soap operas compare here.

What do you think? Do you still like General Hospital TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for additional seasons?
I have been watching General Hospital for almost 45 years! It is a wonderful show and I wouldn’t ever miss it. The only thing different is that I now record it to watch later in the day or the next day. I would be so sad if it got cancelled! When they do the figures on how many people watch the show they need to take into account the people that record it to watch later. I think they would be surprised by the results! Please keep it on the air!!
Tape it every day would not miss it. Watch it when I am home in time to catch it on tv. Love the show started watching it full time when I retired otherwise I have my tape backups to watch. Keep it on the air forever there are a lot of ole time viewers.
My favorite day time show. One I never miss
The show has great viewership however they need to come up w a way to count those who watch online! The old methods of counting viewers is outdated
The show needs to shorten story lines. This thing with Michael & Nell’s baby has gone on too long.
The chart only goes back to 9/9/19 even if you clink the link or refresh the page. Somethings broke.
CANCEL! I have watched since 1967. Started as a kid with my mom and I remember all of it. In the last 2 years they have completely destroyed & disrespected
history with rewrites, character assassinations, and plot points instead of well written stories. They’re obsessed with rape & demeaning female characters to be nothing but props for their male counterparts and display blatant favoritism in airtime for cast members. Sadly I finally I stopped watching months ago but in my opinion they deserve cancellation and their poor ratings reflect the same.
If you stopped watching then stop posting negative comments about the show. Man i hate to see people hide behind their computers and spread negativity.
So because you stopped watching the rest of us don’t count? I’m admin to a group of over 21000 viewers I think those of us who still watch matter… You missed great tv this past week! Although I still wish Billy miller would show back up alive …
I haven’t watched GH since it started and haven’t had cable, internet, or regular air tv for several months now. I really like the show because it lets me think about someone else’s life and escape from mine for even a short time. PLEASE keep it on the air. I will be able to watch again soon. I’m 63 and not tech savvy so I’m still learning how to get to things on my computer or laptop.
You can watch on local abc w an antenna
HD antenna & TV. Life savers when our a couple of local chns went dark
Please keep it on it wouldn’t be the same without it it’s part of our lives now like family
My Mom started watching GH from the start she is now 88. I was born in ’62 so I grew up watching GH with her. I don’t remember my life without it. My parents tape it everyday (Dad is 90). We text each other every night and talk about what happened on GH that day. Gh has always used the show as a great vehicle to bring public awareness from topics right out of the headlines. I would be curious to know what the GH fan base consists of (ages). I would bet there is alot of loyal who have… Read more »
I love GH. I am 78 years old and have watched it since it came on. My career as a teacher caused me to miss sometimes, but I always found a way to keep up. Please, please, please no more talk shows. I watch General Hospital for the stories. No where else but the soaps, can you get so invested in fictional characters and their stories. If GH goes off the air I will definitely not watch another talk show. Guess I will have to turn to Netflix or YouTube for my daily story fix. I know talk shows are… Read more »
My family watches the show together. We have a GH Club with people in my industry that get together to discuss the show. Not many shows can say the same, where people watch 5 days a week, year after year. That is remarkable loyalty. Please keep it going. If it goes away, it’s goodbye to ABC for me.
Please keep general hospital on, I have been watching for over 40 years.
Please continue General Hospital. I feel its a very good show. It continues to include important issues of today such as mental health, LGBTQ, etc. (I know there are more issues but cant think of them right now).
I have been watching General Hospital since I was a little girl and Im 58 now we don’t need another talk show
