TV show description:
This dramatic series follows the fast rise (from age 26 to 34) of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City — and the high personal and professional cost he pays to achieve it.
As Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James) is interviewed for a story about his career, he looks back on his hard-fought journey from street kid to the most powerful man in law enforcement.
After only three years as a beat cop, Clark’s heroics on the job make him bold enough to ask for and receive the unheard-of promotion to homicide detective, angering the members of his new department who are eager to see him fail.
Clark is partnered with and mentored by experienced veteran Detective Don Owen (Chi McBride), a man just two years shy of retirement.
He would rather team with First Grade Detective Christian Arroyo (Kevin Alejandro), the alpha dog in the squad who’s just as ambitious as Clark — but without a moral center. Arroyo’s partner is Detective Deborah McKenzie (Bonnie Somerville), a tough third-generation cop and the only female detective in the unit.
Also on the team is Detective Joe Diaco (Holt McCallany), a well-connected officer with tremendous resources (which Clark might find useful). Though laser-focused on moving up the ladder, Clark’s soft spot is serving as the sole caregiver and supporter of his sister, Agnes (Stella Maeve) — a teenager demonstrating increasingly dangerous behavior.
Keenly observant and politically savvy, “Golden Boy” Clark bases his career decisions solely on his need to succeed as quickly as possible, and he’ll find that his epic journey will be filled with consequences.
Episode #13 — Next Question
Limited by his suspension and relegated to desk duty, Clark delves into Owen’s cold case in which the murder investigation of a construction worker, Jozef Dworaczyk, was compromised by the events of 9/11 happening simultaneously. Andrew Lightstone, Owen’s partner and mentor, was with him on the case and was called up to the North Towers leaving Owen to work the case on his own. That was the last time Owen saw Lightstone.
Clark notes the lack of shell casings and no reports of shots fired to speculate that a contract hit man could have been used. He and Owen confront the drug dealer whose crack house served as the crime scene about the similar way in which his rivals were killed, and the dealer reveals the name of the hit man he suspects had targeted him but mistook Dworaczyk for him instead.
When they track down the hit man, Owen coerces him to confess to fifteen murders including Dworaczyk’s and is rewarded with a promotion. Clark is perturbed when he discovers that three men were wrongly imprisoned for three of those murders and Commissioner Dowdell tells him to disregard his findings.
Lorraine kicks Arroyo out of the house after she discovers that he’s been cheating on her. Meanwhile, Clark’s father persuades Agnes to drive away with him and a volatile Deputy Mayor Holbrook confronts Clark and Margot with a gun.

What do you think? Do you like the Golden Boy TV series? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled and there won’t be a second season?
Typical Hollywood to cancel a good intriguing show in favor of some flaming liberal crap like “2 Broke girls”.
I’ve just found out about this series and already watched 5 episodes! Why did they cancel? Do you think they will pick it up once ‘Insurgent’ is on? Perhaps Theo James can bring back some attention to this show?
Hey. He is getting famous. Shooting Insurgent now. I liked The Golden Boy. It’s not just NBC. It’s ABC, Fox, none of the major networks seem to let a show go past the first season anymore. Its insane. But yet reality shows keep sucking up the network. I hate them all.
Why cancelled the show???? Was good. Had my attention
i cant believe this series was cancelled what a great show and cast why are we subjected to so many stupid shows and great ones are cancelled putm it back on please ,please enuff already
The acting was good, the show interesting, and the plot was different – all in all an outstanding drama. And yet real garbage is still being aired! How does that make sense?!!!
I’m truly sadden by this news that show he been cancelled, I’ve been looking forward to a second seasoned, this is why I don’t like CBS always quick to cancel good shows
YES! My husband and I were wondering if this show was coming back. I’m unhappy to find out it was cancelled. CBS should reconsider!
Yes, I loved Golden Boy. Yes, I’m sorry to see it go. But I’ve begun to be fatalistic. The powers that be take the good stuff off and leave the junk on. I can sit here and name dozens of really good shows they’ve yanked off without giving things a chance. Remember All in the Family? Someone had the good sense to leave it until word got around and it became one of the most popular off all time. NCIS? Not a big following but they left it on. (I watched them all from the beginning) Six years on the… Read more »
I still hope that they will bring this show back because I loved it!! I’m not even from the US, I’m from Sweden which makes you think how far it actually reached.
It’s good to know that it had that far a reach. BTW, I am 1/4 Swedish. My mother’s father and his parents were from a Swedish colony in Finland. They migrated to the USA about the turn of the 20th Century.
I have waited hoping they would bring this show back. Seems like those making the decisions got it wrong this time
When a canceled show gets as many written complaints about its cancelation, I would hope the bigwigs at CBS would give it another thought. I liked everything that everyone else has mentioned about it.
I was surprised to learn that the fellow who played the title role also played the Turkish gentleman in Downton Abbey. He certainly has a lot of magnetism! I thought he looked an awful lot like Dean Stockwell did when he was young. I wondered if there was any relationship, but I guess there isn’t.
I was so looking forward to the next series then I founf out it had been canceled.why cancel the show instead, cancel some of those rediculous shows that do not make since.
I glanced at these comments. They’re all from 2014! People are STILL upset that this series was canceled!
It upset me a lot when this show was canceled. I liked it a lot. It was different, and I really liked the starx. I wish that, after this hiatus it would be resumed.
YES! I Love this SHOW! It is a GOOD DIFFERENT!* I got use to all the actors, and who was good and who was capable of back stabbing. I just couldn’t wait until it came back on again. While your are watching a great program, your still wondering what happened in the past to have gotten him were he is in the present? And his limp, the black cop that trains him that is so wise, and a happy wife. And his picture (of his partner) is on his desk from his PRESENT office. This show is just TOO, GOOD to… Read more »
