Good Omens has not yet been officially renewed for a third season, but things are looking good for the series to return for what would likely be a final round of episodes. Per Deadline, the contracts for the series’ stars – Michael Sheen and David Tennant – have been picked up.
Starring Sheen, Tennant, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith, Niamh Walsh, Derek Jacobi, Maggie Service, Quelin Sepulveda, and Shelley Conn, the supernatural series follows angel Aziraphale (Sheen) and demon Crowley (Tennant), representatives of Heaven and Hell on Earth. Based on Terry Pratchett’s novel, season one saw the pair saving the world. Season two departed from the source material and focused on the pair’s friendship.
If the show is renewed for a third season, it will have a new showrunner. Douglas Mackinnon, who served as executive producer, director, and co-showrunner for the first two seasons of the BBC and Prime Video series, is not being asked back. Mackinnon revealed that he is no longer involved with Good Omens via a post on Instagram, and Neil Gaiman, co-creator of the series, confirmed it.
Gaiman said the following about the future of the series during the recently ended WGA strike:
“It’s planned and plotted and if there wasn’t a Writers Strike on I’d be writing it right now.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Good Omens? Do you want a third and final season of the series?
