It will soon be “case closed” permanently for the Instinct TV show on CBS. The network has cancelled the Sunday night series so there won’t be a third season for Reinart and Needham.
A crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer. Dylan’s old CIA colleague, Julian Cousins (Andrews), lends a hand, along with Lizzie’s C.O., Lt. Jasmine Gooden (Leal). Season two kicked off with Dylan reinstated as NYPD consultant, where he can both impress and irritate Lizzie. Meanwhile, Dylan’s husband, Andy (Ings), pursues adoption as a way for the couple to finally become parents.
Airing on Sunday nights, the second season of Instinct is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.39 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 50% and 49%, respectively. Instinct is nearly the lowest-rated TV shows of the summer CBS TV shows.
A pair of Instinct episodes will air tomorrow night on CBS and the series finale will run next Sunday, August 25th.
Series creator Michael Rauch revealed the show’s cancellation and Cumming and Novak shared their thoughts.
WELL THIS SUCKS BALLS. But when one door closes another… actually fuck that. This sucks balls. Love to all our fans and the most incredible cast and crew. Thank you all for an incredible two years. @Michael_Rauch @Alancumming @CBSTweet @CBSTVStudios @TVdub https://t.co/80QDAJvbTy

What do you think? Did you enjoy the Instinct TV show on CBS? Would you have watched a third season of this series?
Well this sucks. All the good shows are being thrown by the wayside while all those “FAKE” reality shows go on and on and on! Please bring Lizzie and Julian together at the end. They are a perfect match.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the 2 seasons of Instinct. It was new and fresh and funny and I always look forward to Sunday nights to enjoy it. All the stars mesh together so well and each character is so unique. I am so sorry that it will not continue.
Watched most of it, won’t miss it.
Dunno if employing Cummings was to fill a quota, but the acting (or maybe writing) for that role was terrible. (Compare him with Paul Blackthorne in The InBetween.)
I think they should have added Travis Van Winkle to the cast earlier, he’s much more appealing.
I don’t know what CBS is thinking. First The Code, now Instinct. Two of the best shows on TV. Pretty soon there will be nothing left to watch except the NCIS knock-offs. Please get your head on straight, CBS programming execs!! These are two terrific shows!
Completely agree on both shows, I didn’t know Code had been cancelled! I absolutely ADORE Dylan and Andy and will miss them so much. LOVE Dylan and Lizzie too, they were perfect foils for each other.
Watch a season 3? Of course! And many, many more!
I will certainly miss it. At age 62 I know my age group means nothing to the all important “ratings gods”. Everytime I find a show I love, those darned 18-40 year olds nix it. Any chance it can move to a streaming service like Hulu or Netflix?
I am devastated by the cancellation of such a mind blowing series. I was enthralled by every episode, in the last two seasons.
We really enjoyed the show. The humor was a plus in each episode. I actually like the show better than the book, which I read. CBS strikes again, leaving on such claptrap as Big Brother. Boo CBS
I’m very sad to see this show ending! 2 seasons isn’t nearly enough time to get to know the characters. When Bones cancelled it was a very sad day. Then it was announced that Elementary would be cancelled and now Instinct. Who’s going to solve all the murder mysteries??!! Maybe Unsolved Mysteries is going to make a come back?
Enough with the reality shows, I get enough drama at work and in my family. Don’t care to watch more reality drama on TV.
I love, love love this show! I am very disappointed that I won’t see Dylan and Andy as parents and what happens between Julian and Lizzie. An excellent show with engaging characters! What a shame!
I love this show. Please don’t cancel! I love all the crime dramas on CBS. So nice to have something new and interesting to watch in the summer
Love this show!!! Please reconsider
I really enjoyed the show and looked forward to Sunday night. This really does suck. Bad move CBS exec’s. Apparently you don’t watch the show yourselves. Bad call!!!!
Why? This was an entertaining show, and I’m even having to watch on my computer since CBS station owners are are still negotiating with ATT UVerse, so I don’t even have access to watch this show. Maybe not having access to CBS in about 175 stations has skewed the viewership.
Don’t kill it, try a different time slot! We have too few plot-driven shows with beautiful , talented people . It’s progressive with Alan as a gay married man-or Alan playing any character! And wow what a wardrobe.
I love this show. It seems like everything that is good they cancel. There are plenty of shows that shouldn’t be on air but this isnt one of them.
Why cancel a great show with awesome characters and fun interactions? Because the ratings for the 18-49 year olds weren’t good enough. Stupid people – you are losing audiences fast. We’re sick of reality shows and contrived comedies. Instinct, Elementary and Whisky Cavalier were all great, but no, you couldn’t be bothered with keeping them.
