In terms of its demo average, the first season of Kevin James’ Kevin Can Wait TV show was a top three performer for CBS. The comedy also ranked in 10th place in terms of total audience size, during the 2016-17 television season. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though. The numbers dwindled after it lost The Big Bang Theory as its lead-in. In the second season they’re shaking things up, by killing off Erinn Hayes’ character, Donna Gable, and bringing on James’ King of Queens co-star, Leah Remini, to reprise her season one turn as Vanessa Cellucci. Can reuniting this comic duo further build upon this successful series’ ratings? Will Kevin Can Wait be cancelled or renewed for season three on CBS? Stay tuned.
A multi-camera sitcom, Kevin Can Wait stars Kevin James, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Joes, James DiGiacomo, Gary Valentine, Leonard Earl Howze, and Leah Remini. The CBS TV series centers on Kevin Gable (James). In the first season, this former police officer yearned to revel in his retirement. The second installment opens a year after the events of the season one finale. Now, in the wake of Donna’s death, Kevin finds himself working for his old rival, Vanessa, at her security firm. **Status update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. I love the new format with Leah. This week’s episode was the funniest episode of KCW ever ! I haven’t laughed that hard at a show in a long time. The amusement park ride scene, was absolutely priceless ! Erinn Hayes is a very funny lady, but KCW was not the right fit. Watch her in “Children’s Hospital” and you will see what I mean. She was so naturally funny in that. On KCW she looked like she was trying too hard to be funny. There was no chemistry between her and Kevin. It happens all the time in showbiz.… Read more »
lol down vote my comment all you want. CBS just bumped them up from 22 episodes to 24 episodes. They are averaging a 1.8 in the demo ratings when you add in the delayed DVR viewings. The show is doing well. It is a sure bet that it will be renewed. People who follow ratings closely all say that the show is better this season. Sorry for those who are unhappy, but you are not accomplishing anything with your whining. The show is CBS’ highest ratest show on Monday nights and has been in the top 25 list of most… Read more »
Doesn’t mean a thing.they wanted last of those shows to add it…hence that shows they had second thoughts before doing it. Kcw sticks and had no moral views cancel it
If they were not happy with the show, they would not order more episodes. That is just common sense. Like I said, hate all you want. The show WILL be renewed for a third season. It’s almost a sure bet. 🙂
That’s funny. You can close your eyes and believe whatever you want. But the fact is they had a wait and they did shows that they were reluctant to make two more episodes because if they did that she has a failure of those two are great. But because of the commitment to this show they had to do it because the ribs executives would have to lose face if they didn’t.
ummm you do know that they extended them to 24 episodes sooner this season than they did for last season right ? Here is the link for last season’s announcement. Notice the date ?

You have no idea what doing refering to. It’s was renewed but only after the other shows where first ( said this before). It makes sence since it lose so many ratings demo
Why would they keep this on? Then again with way is now, might not be on next year.
Could ‘t have said it better. Steady ratings. The show is getting better a d better every episode
Lol what series are you watching
not to mean but what are you watching KCW is trash if i wasn’t babysitting 2 kids every monday i wouldnt even watch this trash its stupid, you wanna a good hilarious show watch “MOM”
No thanks. Not a fan of crass humor. I’ll stick to KCW. 🙂
Kevin & Leah still have that same chemistry that made it work the first time. I love this new format and plan to pop my corn, get my comfy spot on the sofa and wait for this couple to continue the spark that made them the duo back then. Today even better. The Monkey fist team works as Leah does what she does best, putting Kevin in his place. Love this show!!
I have also cancelled this series in my PVR recordings and will no longer be watching this show. Very bad taste in killing off Donna and the way they handled it. She was an integral part of the cast and very funny. We were first shocked and then angry the network did this as we really enjoyed season 1. What a huge mistake they’ve made. Leah Remini is loud, obnoxious, and stupid in this new role. She and Kevin were great in King of Queens but that run is long over and it just isn’t the same here. It seems… Read more »
yes, they should have brought back a revised King of Queens
I watched the show a few times in season 1 and wanted to like it, but for a comic actor Kevin James looked angry all the time!! I liked the wife, she was funny and had a warmth about her the show REALLY needed. The way they addressed ( or didn’t address) her death was cold and the lame “joke ?’ about the gym membership was in bad taste and just NOT funny. Leah Remini is annoying as always and so overexposed. The “cast” picture she posted during the summer of her first day on the set, was insensitive to… Read more »
Wow did this she’ll take a dump and ratings. It showing believe likes the change. CVS because this mess now live with it. Don’t make the mistake again!
What language are you speaking??!!!
After killing off the wife and poorly handling it, we cancelled one of last years favorite shows from our dvr
I’m disappointed with killing off his wife and bringing back Leah Remini as a main character. I love Kevin James and Leah Remini – King of Queens was an awesome show, but that run is over. I liked seeing a different duo and now you’re just trying to recreate something that you can’t. I’ve deleted this show from my DVR recordings – just not interested now.
Will not be watching this show anymore! The show insensitivity cast off the first wife dismissing her importance as a wife and mother with a curt statement by the daughter in the first episode implying that Kevin should get over it …I think they said she passed away a year ago…who moves on after only one year after the death of a wife and mother….plus this was a shocking moment to the audience who loved the characters as they were. The dynamics between the wife and Kevin were endearing and the chemistry fun. I actually was very bored with the… Read more »
Very disappointed that show removed first wife. Her soft, sweet character was a great fit to Kevin’s crazy antics. I do not want to watch another King and Queens show. Leah R. Does not “fit” with season 1 plot.
I think it really sucks that they dumped the first wife like that. And truly, as others have noted, the addition of Rimini seems like a reboot of King of Queens…the dodo husband and the nasty wife. Check out ‘Man with a Plan’ with Matt LeBlanc…a comedy is a decent family sitcom with some friction between the couple, but funny, and they kept the wife!!
We absolutely loved wife one we will not even be tuning in to one more episode of Leah
Doesnt look good. The time spot is what it should be. But the rating are going to be worse.
I also will not be watching it. Donna made that show funny and something I looked forward to watching weekly. The two had something that worked. I never watched king of queens as I didn’t much care for the two of them together then so this is a thumbs down. Good luck with your new season.
IF WATCHING THE FIRST EPISODE, IT WILL BE CANCELLED. THERE WAS NO CHARISMA . IT WAS A MISTAKE TO KILL OFF THE MOTHER/WIFE FOR SHE REALLY CARRIED THE SHOW AS A COMPLIMENT TO KEVIN. I DON’T THINK I WILL BE WATCHING IT ANYMORE BECAUSE IT WAS FLAT.
I agree.. IT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE
No bad decision to change format
So horrible that they dropped Erinn in favor of this “new/old wife” of Leah. Leah’s fine (though she got fat) but it just looks like she ate Erinn to get the job. Why kick her off? They play different roles and no one wants another King Of Queens reunion with fat kids (omg the younger ones blew up too!) and the same old wife. This isn’t Kevin anymore, it’s just King Part Two.
I don’t think you know what the heck your talking about during koq…she got fat during pregnancy and so what if she’s heavier now that’s a horrible thing to say besides she’s not fat and they had no kids on koqs… And the kids on kcw…. Are not fat
