In terms of its demo average, the first season of Kevin James’ Kevin Can Wait TV show was a top three performer for CBS. The comedy also ranked in 10th place in terms of total audience size, during the 2016-17 television season. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though. The numbers dwindled after it lost The Big Bang Theory as its lead-in. In the second season they’re shaking things up, by killing off Erinn Hayes’ character, Donna Gable, and bringing on James’ King of Queens co-star, Leah Remini, to reprise her season one turn as Vanessa Cellucci. Can reuniting this comic duo further build upon this successful series’ ratings? Will Kevin Can Wait be cancelled or renewed for season three on CBS? Stay tuned.
A multi-camera sitcom, Kevin Can Wait stars Kevin James, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Joes, James DiGiacomo, Gary Valentine, Leonard Earl Howze, and Leah Remini. The CBS TV series centers on Kevin Gable (James). In the first season, this former police officer yearned to revel in his retirement. The second installment opens a year after the events of the season one finale. Now, in the wake of Donna’s death, Kevin finds himself working for his old rival, Vanessa, at her security firm. **Status update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

For comparisons: The first season of Kevin Can Wait averaged a 1.61 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total audience of 7.63 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the Kevin Can Wait TV series? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a third season on CBS?
**5/12/2018 Status Update: Kevin Can Wait has been cancelled by CBS. Details here.
I think the show is great! They could have more sensitive to the death of the first season wife but it played out well. I truly hope it is picked back up for season 3. If it doesn’t get picked up I don’t believe I will keep up with the other sit-coms on CBS Monday nights. I think the revamp of Roseanne might have CBS worried about their recent sit-com dominance. So they might drop some good shows.
I’m a big fan of Kevin and enjoy seeing him together with Leah, but they made Kevin’s character too stupid to enjoy. They need to modify his character a bit and allow him to be more naturally funny and less stupid.
Ok why was my comment removed! There not any harmful remarks in it.
It wasn’t removed. It’s right here: https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/kevin-can-wait-season-two-ratings/comment-page-10/#comment-2643517
definetly cancel this is a horrible show i am a late person i stay up every night til 2am-3am but every monday im always falling asleep during this show but am wide awake before the show and for Man With A Plan thisbis by far the worst show airing there is no storyline to the show either dont make the mistake and renew it
I like to say something about Kevin can wait show. Please bear in mind, that demographics and ratings. The results of the show be for a third season is very iffy. But they will renew this, but maybe the stipulation will be a time change or date change. Maybe in a different time and time of the week it’s on maybe this will survive. No way this show continue at this pace and this prime time spot. The network has to figure out what we’re gonna do with this programming, why not just switch the other two other comedies that… Read more »
Kevin is just an attempt to recreate King of Queens. It is not funny and so obvious they are trying to bring in has -beens from KoQ. His movies were bombs and yet they keep trying to prop uim up. Let this show die and put it with all of the KoQ’s in a storage locker and don’t pay the rent.
There is nothing funny about this show. Kevin James’ character is annoying and childish and they want us to believe he’s a retired Police officer. Which one is he? Toody or Muldoon? Please remove this waste of a half hour from the schedule!
The handling of the wife when she was the saving grace of this so called sitcom. He has to be the center, albeit a stupid one, the center. The things he does aren’t funny, more like a child brain. I like the rest of the Monday lineup is why the tv is on the channel but mostly not paying attention. Anything else would be easier to watch.
Like watching the show but it has gotten to the point that Kevin is beyond stupid and it beginning to be unbearable. Maybe he should have been the one killed off
They totally ruined this show. I loved it last year…except for the last two episodes with Leah. So, they kill off Erin (who was hilarious), and replace her with Leah full-time (who is not hilarious), and the show just stinks to high heaven now. Cancel it. Bam….Karma!
It needs to go.
I was so sad when they killed off the character Donna. I do love Leah and Kevin so I continue to watch. Now I find myself not liking the show. It is not because of Leah. They changed Kevin’s character and made him a unlikable idiot. I get annoyed now every time I watch him. Bring back the first season Kevin or I sadly am done.
Don’t like or watch this show at all
the show was great at first, I loved it!!!! but they killed off Erin’s character and the way they went about it, really bad….I get it Kings of Queens was a great show, but just because it was a success doesn’t mean bringing them back together would work again, yes sometimes I will watch and go “ha” but I hope they don’t get a 3rd season..
terrible, horrible, stupid, idiotic, no storyline what so ever, definitely cancel this show asap
