In terms of its demo average, the first season of Kevin James’ Kevin Can Wait TV show was a top three performer for CBS. The comedy also ranked in 10th place in terms of total audience size, during the 2016-17 television season. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though. The numbers dwindled after it lost The Big Bang Theory as its lead-in. In the second season they’re shaking things up, by killing off Erinn Hayes’ character, Donna Gable, and bringing on James’ King of Queens co-star, Leah Remini, to reprise her season one turn as Vanessa Cellucci. Can reuniting this comic duo further build upon this successful series’ ratings? Will Kevin Can Wait be cancelled or renewed for season three on CBS? Stay tuned.
A multi-camera sitcom, Kevin Can Wait stars Kevin James, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Joes, James DiGiacomo, Gary Valentine, Leonard Earl Howze, and Leah Remini. The CBS TV series centers on Kevin Gable (James). In the first season, this former police officer yearned to revel in his retirement. The second installment opens a year after the events of the season one finale. Now, in the wake of Donna’s death, Kevin finds himself working for his old rival, Vanessa, at her security firm. **Status update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. What do you think? Did you enjoy the Kevin Can Wait TV series? Should it have been cancelled or renewed for a third season on CBS?
**5/12/2018 Status Update: Kevin Can Wait has been cancelled by CBS. Details here.
Cancel the show. Donna was what made the show funny and worth watching. I no longer watch the show!
Cancel this show – Kevin “doesn’t need to wait” anymore!
loved Kings of Queens. I still watch the reruns. I keep waiting for Kevin Can Wait to be funny but it rarely is. I am a Leah Remeni fan. I dont think that she is the problem. The writing just isn’t funny and the show lacks a decent plot line. Her character just seems “angry” all the time. They need to soften her up and maybe even bring in Jerry Stiller.
Season 3? With ratings down almost 50% since the beginning of season 2? Do CBS executives really have to poll people to make a decision? If this were any other business and profits were down 50%, someone at the top would have been fired. It is called Show BUSINESS. CBS should have had a backup plan, pulled this from the air and replaced it with something else already.
My husband and I enjoyed season one, but season two is NOT good. Someone made a really bad decision to change the story line of the show.
Yes do not like to watch the show anymore, to much like king of queens, to much stupidity o it.
Cancel it.
This show sucks worse now than it did last season. Watched it last year but not this season. One episode was enough.
gave it one last chance and terrible show now it was better with Donna, Leah Remini is terrible in this show she was great in “King of Queens” kevin james isnt funny in this season the only good thing in this season is the daughter
Bad move to drop Donna I started to enjoy this family and characters season 2 ultimately boring I’m done watching or bring back the mom
Ratings didn’tt drop because of Big Bang theory move, they dropped because the show was changed from fresh and funny to a tired redo of king of queens. Plus the writers handled the write off horribly. I’m out…to many other great shows on to waste time with this mess!
I liked the old cast. Not Leah! So, I am out and it is off!
Sorry but it needs to be canceled. It was good season 1 but now it’s just a redo of King of Queens.
Season 1 was good this season is terrible it’s exactly like “King of Queens” only difference is the people instead of arthor you have the son in law living with him and he only has one friend now and he is black(im not racist/prejudice) she walks in like she lives there she treats kevin the same as in “King of Queens” and she avoids his brother like in “King of Queens” i stopped after last week ii thought maybe it would get better but i was wrong it got worse the storylines are dumb and its not funny llike before… Read more »
I loved season 1. At first didn’t see Donna with Kevin, but halfway through season thought how smart that Erin was cast. It made Kevin believable as a parent. It made things he did more funny seeing her have to deal with it. It was a show where the entire cast worked well together. The laughs came from the interactions. The show is no longer special. We watched first one of season 2 out of curiosity, but won’t watch again. What a shame that a winning combination was thrown away. The show could have lasted for years the way it… Read more »
I think keven James and Leah Remini are great together, I like the show better. It was a shame they killed off Erin’s character, but felt her roll didn’t fit as welL. I watched season one for keven, Leah seems like a natural fit. Story line more interesting.
