What can fans expect from the new season of Last Man Standing? Recently, executive producer Kevin Abbott discussed season seven plans for the FOX TV series revival.
As reported earlier, FOX has picked up the Tim Allen sitcom for a seventh season after ABC cancelled it last year. The returning cast also includes Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Jonathan Adams, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, and Hector Elizondo. The roles of daughter Mandy and grandson Boyd, previously played by Molly Ephraim (above, with Allen) and Flynn Morrison, will be recast. Kaitlyn Dever (daughter Eve) will return in a recurring role.
During this summer’s TCA panel, Abbott revealed season seven of Last Man Standing will not address the Trump administration directly:
Mike Baxter is a conservative, a Republican, he holds those ideals. The central character has a more conservative [view, but] we don’t really do issues of the week. We consider ourselves a family show with a traditional character at the center of it.”
Allen said that he believed ABC’s cancellation was a “financial decision” and not a political one. He does, however, feel that it was handled poorly because they didn’t have any warning.
Fans can expect at least one new character in seasons even — a Chinese foreign exchange student:
Vanessa, when she was in her teens, went on a foreign exchange and she’s been a big supporter of that. She wants to bring in a child and support that program, so they [do].”
In addition, grandson Boyd will be “aged up” to 12 years old so, the writers can introduce storylines about “a young man on the cusp”. Also, Mikes dad, played by Robert Forster, will pass away so there will be elements of grief and mortality in season seven.
The new season of Last Man Standing premieres on FOX on September 28th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Last Man Standing? Will you watch the new season on FOX?
Love the series. Will certainly watch on 9-28.
Really excited this is coming back, and on a better network, anyway! One of the few shows left on TV that doesn’t portray the dad as a dufus! Also one of few that has the intestinal fortitude to defend “truth, justice, and the American way”! Kudos to Tim Allen for telling it like it OUGHT to be!
We’ll miss the airhead (I know, she wasn’t really), but maybe the new cast member will be even better, who knows?
Oh yes, I’m so looking forward to the new Season!! It was a darn shame thar it was canceled in the first place…. “Not Cool!” (lol.. couldn’t resist.) And I’m glad that Kaitlyn Dever (Eve) will be back as well, even if it’s part time considering she has other projects going on. So, bring on Season 7!!
Glad show will be back, hope they recast somebody funny for middle daughter.
Yes! I will definitely be watching! Still keep hoping Molly Ephraim will have a change of heart and come back to the show.
So they are only keeping the boring daughter?
Not cool! She is actually one of the most interesting of the bunch!
So happy it’s back on and can’t wait to see. Molly Ephraim will be missed though….
Big fan Love the show all the characters were fantastic, going to miss miss cutie pie but as long as we still have our sweet tom boy LOL we will be fine. Thanks FOX for not letting such a great show come to an end. Everyone thanks for a great show looking forward to watching for years to come. Even after Tim ends up in a wheelchair.lol
Yes I will watch but I would like the characters will be the same
What I don’t understand is if Kaitlin Dever is not going to be in recast for the revival, why is she featured in Fox’s current ad for the show, with a blurb along the lines of “expect the show to be just like it used to be”? And why did you also use a picture of Tim and Kaitlin, when a picture of Tim and just about anyone else from the old cast would work as a promotional photo for the revival? How odd.
I’ll pass. The ironic thing is Disney will own it by spring and be cancelled again lol.
Disney would own the production company that makes it, but not the Fox channel on which it will air (That, Fox News and FS1 are not part of the sale). So while they could shut down production that would be extremely unlikely if another network is willing to pay for it.
No they won’t. Disney is getting the company but not the network. Its because a company can only own one broadcast network here in the US (Cable does not count). However what is ironic is that due to the fact that Fox owns LMS, Disney will own the show soon.
Yes I am looking forward to it’s return.
Hell yes can’t wait.
can’t wait to see last man standing back on TV!! good news for fox and America, too bad for the other channels who could not see great talent. haha bye felica abc.
I absolutely will watch the revival. It’s too bad that the person playing Mandy isn’t returning.
Hell yea, Love Tim Allen.
Best show on tv. Sorry to see Molly go. Why did u finish off the Dad & the Spanish housekeeper was great. Where did she go. She was a riot. Big mistake losing her. Keep this show on air. So great to see a good American show on tv. Thx Fox.
