NEW YORK (February 28, 2018) – Explorer, adventurer and host of the hit series “Expedition Unknown,” Josh Gates showcases the unexpected stories of unforgettable places around the world in Travel Channel’s new series “Legendary Locations.”Premiering with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, March 28 at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, the 13-episode season features Gates as he recounts the gripping history behind storied and popular places. From an ancient city carved into Jordan’s sandstone cliffs and a favorite summer getaway of notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar, to an Irish landscape now known as Luke Skywalker’s lair, Gates investigates the ancient legends and surprising folklore that travelers and locals alike love to share.
“My adventures have taken me to more than 100 countries across the globe and the places that have truly stayed with me are the ones with their own stories to tell,” said Gates. “I’m revealing locations that are truly legendary – each one framed by an epic backstory, a secret origin or forgotten lore. From luminescent glow-worm caves in New Zealand and a once debaucherous, sunken city in Italy to a Viking festival of fire, each spin of the globe reveals another jaw-dropping destination. These are the stories behind places you know, like the iconic Statue of Liberty, to hidden places you’ve never imagined. The world is a weird, wild and wondrous place, and I can’t wait to share its most legendary locations.”
The premiere episode kicks off with a trek up the snowy Romanian mountaintops of Transylvania, where the true story of two castles are even bloodier than the iconic vampire tale of Dracula. Then, just miles off the coast of Japan, Hashima Island is a real-world dystopia. Resembling something out of science fiction, the once populous mining community lies in haunting ruin. Finally, in a bizarre Christmas tradition reemerging in Munich, holiday revelry is replaced with a parade of pagan monsters.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of travel shows? Will you watch Legendary Locations?
I do not like this show. I am a big Josh fan, but this misses the mark. Any one can narrate a show. Some of the footage is recycled from his past shows also. I hope that it is not a career killer
I agree
I seem to feel as many other posters do. I fell in love with Josh’s Destination Truth. His whole team was great. I loved the fun dialogue Josh had with his teammates, esp Ryder:) That is what is missing in this new offering. He just narrates the locations. Anyone can do this on any other generic destination show. Very disappointed. Please bring Josh and his team back for more adventures as in DT. thanks
I agree
I understand that this show will give Josh more time at home with his family, but would rather he investigate the stories instead of other people. Josh, your humor and fun personality make your shows!! You could cover stories on any subject and it would be great because of YOU! Love you, man!!
I like the shows but it would be cool if he would find something sometimes it kind of leaves you hanging.
We are huge fans of Josh and his other shows, Legendary Locations is a disgrace!
Josh just narrates from the studio using stock clips. Worst thing Travel Channel has put on. Josh – you are insulting your fans and hurting your credibility.
I am an avid Josh Gates fan. I watched him on the SyFy channel before anyone knew he was. I love his sense of adventure and humor! I’ve said all of that to clarify that this is coming from a place a love for everything he does. Mostly. Legendary Locations is not good. I get it, his wife never sees him and I think he has a child now and he needs some time home, but the thing that makes his shows the best is he is actually there! Come up with another solution because this one doesn’t work. Sorry.
Legendary Locations is a travesty … How can Travel Channel and Josh Gates for that matter, justify spending 10 minutes or less, counting commercial time lost, traveling to such “legendary locations,” and doing them such an elementary at best service? I watched episode 1 and won’t waste my valuable time again. Seriously, if you’re going to spend productions money on such “legendary” locales then cover them fully and with some respect for the intelligence of your viewers. For example, the vast number if the viewing public is well aware of the connection between Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’ and Vlad the… Read more »
I am an avid Josh gates follower, and the new show, as I am watching it now, is good… But not great. In my opinion, it should be an hour long, not half hour, and feature two places and Josh and a friend explore the place. Food wise and the people as well. In my opinion, it would be far more interesting, and Josh gates’ humor, always makes the show better.
Big fan of Gates. Not a fan of Gates as narrator only. It is his interactions with people and places that we fans enjoy. Legendary Locations seems more like a lazy man’s version of a travel show. Sorry, I’ll keep watching Expedition Unknown and Destination Truth, but LL won’t be on my list. Swing and a miss.
I love Josh gates! My grandson and I watch his shows every week together. My grandson loves history and Josh gives us so much! Please never leave us and always be on TV.
How can Josh manage two series at the same time (in addition to having a wife who is a saint)? I suspect the new “Legendary Locations” will be based on already-filmed/not-shown footage, such as from Petra, Jordan. I was there years ago and avidly watched the earlier show. (I will now take liberty to be pedantic as I feel compelled to correct the pronunciation of an Arabic word Josh used in that earlier show: the narrow passageway to the Treasury Building is the siq, sounds like “seek,” not “sick.” Brave of me to correct Josh on anything, but on this,… Read more »
Will watch anything Josh Gates!! I’m watching Destination Truth right now. Any adventure he takes us on is a good one. Travel on Josh, travel on!!
I don’t know, I like Unknown Destations and Detination Truth
I’m 66 yrs old…When I was 21 and in the Navy I found a cave with Gold in canvas sacks …on the outside of the cave were the initials JJ and masonic temple carvings…the Gold is still there but it’s on an Army reserve base…Apparently no one knows its there. I asked an FBI agent once if I showed someone in the government where it was would I get a finders fee, he said no, they’d kill you and take it all…I know where it is…I counted 15 sacks of gold!!
Thank you for adding another show hosted by Josh Gates! Absolutely love him and have since the very first episode of Destination Truth (when it was on Syfy)
I’m a fan of Josh Gates and been watching him for years. Glad to see he another series coming out. Thanks!
