The magic is gone, at least for now. TNT has cancelled The Librarians TV show after four seasons. On Twitter, executive producer Dean Devlin confirmed that he had just received a call confirming the cancellation. However, a glimmer of hope remains. Devlin said he will, “…immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere,” and asked fans to keep their fingers crossed.
A TNT fantasy-adventure drama, The Librarians stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette, with Noah Wyle recurring as veteran librarian, Flynn Carsen. Like the film franchise, the TV series centers on the ancient organization dedicated to safeguarding an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. The librarians serve as the protectors of the world’s mystical treasures.

The Librarians: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Librarians averaged a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.45 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 38% and 20%, respectively. From that perspective, the cancellation makes sense.
Among the eight first-run scripted TNT TV shows we’re currently tracking, The Librarians ranks fourth in terms of its demo ratings average and drops to fifth in terms of average total audience. Running in the middle of the pack after four seasons is still respectable. However, in the last year or so, TNT has been repositioning itself as the home of edgy, grittier drama. The Turner-owned cable network even cancelled Major Crimes this year — its number one show. Like that procedural, it seems like The Librarians is as much a victim of the cable net’s new image, as of Nielsen households.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Librarians TV series? Shoul it have been cancelled or renewed for season five on TNT? Sound off, in the comments.
Yes, the canceling makes sense, ratings a low but that´s only cause the most favorite character is missing. I believe that Noah Wyle´s return could make a difference. I also love the show as many people have proved in a comments below and hope that it may continue someday.
Would love to see more of this. It seems that it was just starting to explore more about the character’s in this last season.
I really think part of the problem was there was too much time between the seasons. Additionally, people who record the season in order to binge watch it at once are not counted in the ratings. In other words the true number of people watching & enjoying the show is significantly under estimated. As far as Noah Wylie leaving—-honestly he’s the worst actor of the bunch and I never enjoyed seeing him. I thought the show would have been stronger & more interesting without him. I a hopeful the show can be successfully marketed elsewhere.
never seen so many shows been dropped by TNT .. Leverage , Dallas , Rozzli & Iles , Major Crimes , now Librarians .. which had very high ratings .. yet , they keep the ones on drugs, car chasing guns , women being abused by men .. then you have women dressing up with long fingernails looking like hookers ..guess the new guy doesnt like to improve his ratings
one of my favorite shows! it had comedy, drama & all in between – sure do hope that Dean finds another channel to go to!!
Will it be moved to syfy channel?
Great show, it was very entertaining.
I hope Mr. Devlin finds a new place for the Librarians. I loved al, tge movies and the series too. It’s different than most of the other shows I watch, police, medical, etc. I sincerely hope there is much more to come for this show.
Great show….sure hope it finds a new home.
Shouldn’t have been canceled so hopefully another station will pick it up.
(Tried to post this, yesterday, but had device issues…) It’s not right that they’ve cancelled “The Librarians”!!! :-\ (Though, each year, at the end of the season, I’ve feared that that might be the case.) Not only was “The Librarians” a fanciful and creative show (albeit a little “Warehouse13”-esc [though, actually, the “Librarian” movies pre-dated that]), and the only family-friendly show on the entire network, but it was the only good show left (first-run) on the entire network–and, I have been incredibly disheartened at the gritty/crass/violent/”TV-MA” direction that TNT–and TV in general has taken over the last couple/few years!!! :-\… Read more »
This show is fun with a different challenge each week. It can be watched by the whole family, which is hard to find these days. We love, love, love this show!!! It should absolutely be renewed. TNT is making a huge mistake.
I am shocked that my Librarians has been cancelled. Being of the older generation (63), I still am an avid fan of many shows and this was one of them. Shame on you TNT. I hope and pray this show gets a new home and soon. I’ll miss you until then!
I love this show, one of the good ones that got canceled for some stuff that’s not fit to watch…
Cute show, clean and fun. Sorry to see it cancelled. Maybe Reilly needs to be cancelled so those of us over 50 can enjoy TV shows that aren’t reality, edgy or have foul language. Same with Major Crimes: LOVED that show and it’s actors.
