Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

Love Lie To Me!!! What is wrong with Fox???
I think Lie to Me is an extremely intelligent show. The acting is superb, the story lines are believable, and the scripts are balanced, intelligent, humerous (always in the right places), and paced well throughout the show. I look forward the the episodes that will come on in spring, and I do hope they do not cancel this show. I will purchase this series on dvd, that’s how much I enjoy it!!!
this is one of the best shows in the world!!!! i will be severely upset if Fox cancels this show… KEEP IT GOING!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lie TO Me. PLEASE DO NOT cancel it.
What happens when you love both Lie to Me and House? You record one and watch it later, of course! Please keep Lie to Me going!
It is indeed a FAVORITE show of ours and I sincerely hope FOX will return it for the completion of this season’s episodes and renew it for another year! It is unique in its subject matter and the characters/actors are definitely compelling. We EAGERLY await it’s return!
“Lie to Me” is one of our favorite shows. We’re looking forward to seeing it again, whenever FOX decides to bring it back. It’s got the right mix of drama, suspense, humor and pathos. Bring it back!
CBS, I think that this is a great show but is too smart for the House crowd, and believe me, I like House BUT…Lie To Me is a more True to Life Crime Drama based on actual fact (unlike House’s bogus medicine/vicodin popping mania!
Please put the show in a spot that it can draw its OWN audience. Its on my DVR list and pretty high up in the preferences too. Please keep this show on. Its just too good to disgard!
Of course they need to keep it! Truth be told, I started watching House because Lie to Me came on after it. Before, I didn’t watch Fox much at all other than 24. I’ve always been a fan of shows like this. I actually met a retired FBI guy whose job was just this. I wish FOX could “read” my face and body language to let them know that if this goes away and with the end of 24, I won’t be a viewer anymore because this was the best show FOX had on air.
You kidding me? Lie to Me is much better then the Mentalist crap. If not FOX, maybe TNT can pick it up.
Please FOX, please don’t cancel lie to me. I love this show. It is so intellegent and captivating. You just need to give it more time.. My family and I love this show.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show!!!!!!!! PLEASE don’t cancel it for at LEAST 5 more years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE!!!!
OH my GOODNESS, please, I BEG YOU FOX, don’t take away “Lie To Me”, it is my utmost favorite. So many of my favorites have already been removed, don’t do this to LTM. Tim Roth is such a refreshing, believable actor, seen him in some movies he’s done and he does deserve this series. Thank you for LIE TO ME. By the way, when is it coming back already! Someone told me it was to be back in April, now I’m hearing and reading that probably May or June now? You’re killing us fans here!
Lie to Me is a great show with terrific story line. It is refreshing to not see the usual Fox reality crap!
it is the # 1 show on fox. they should put it on in the best time slot possible
