canceled + renewed TV shows, ratings - TV Series Finale

Lone Star: Petition to Save the FOX TV Show from Being Cancelled

Lone StarRobert Allen (James Wolk) certainly knows how to run a con. Unfortunately, there’s no conning the ratings and his show’s are so bad it’s sure to be cancelled. In fact, FOX will very likely pull the series before all 13 episodes have even aired.

What can you do? Remember, the ideal scenario for FOX is for many millions of people to watch the show on their television sets, while it’s being broadcast. Unfortunately, ratings are put together based on a sampling of viewers. If you’re a “Nielsen household,” your viewing is being counted. If not, it’s not.

However, if you like Lone Star and want to see it continue, there are a few things you can do to help.

  1. If you’re a Nielsen family, watch the show whenever it’s on. If not, watch it on FOX.com or purchase episodes online so your viewing will be directly counted. Encourage others to watch the show. You might know a Nielsen family and not be aware of it.
  1. Talk about the show with others; at school, at work, online, or wherever. Creating a buzz about a show that you’re invested in gets other people interested and might help bring former viewers back.
  1. Sign the petition below and encourage others to do the same.
  1. Write to the network. Be respectful. Everyone responds better to courtesy. Tell them how much you enjoy the show, that you’ve signed the petition, and that you want to see it continue. You can e-mail or, even better, write via “snail-mail” to: Mr. Kevin Reilly, President, FOX, P.O. Box 900, Beverly Hills, CA 90213-0900, RE: Lone Star
  1. Take note of the products that are advertised during the show. Write the advertisers and tell them that you appreciate their sponsoring the show and that you buy their products (if you do).

To FOX and 20th Century Fox Television:

We, the undersigned, greatly enjoy watching Lone Star on the FOX network. The series has interesting storylines and all of the actors are top notch.

Please find a way to keep Lone Star on the air — at the very least, to let all 13 episodes air. We are devoted viewers who will continue to watch the program, encourage others to do the same, and will support the series’ advertisers as well. Please keep it going, either on FOX or, if necessary, on another channel.

Thank you for your consideration.

Lone Star was a great show that would have only got better over time. You should bring it back. Remember that when probably one of the best TV series of all time, " Hill Street Blues " first aired, that it's ratings were not good also, but the network stuck with the characters and the story line, and I guess you say that the rest was history.

Why would you cancel this good show? It didnt even get a chance to grow. I agree with other viewers, american idol is WAY over played and needs to go!

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING FOX? THIS SHOW WAS GREAT! I CANNOT BELIEVE THESE GREAT DRAMAS ARE NOT BEING GIVEN THE CHANCE TO GAIN AN AUDIENCE. CANCEL ALL THE REALITY CRAP INCLUDING AMERICAN IDOL! PLEASE GIVE THIS SMART SHOW ANOTHER CHANCE OR ANOTHER HOME.

This was one of two favorite new shows, very disappointing to have it canceled without allowing it to gain the audience it might have received. Bring it back!

you sure didn't get this one right - cancelling lone star i am thinking you do not have the right people in the right places that are making these decisions. way to listen to the people - NOT! but we the people are giving you a second chance so that you can get it right. soooooo, do the right thing!
  • BethCountry: USA2010-12-22 14:17:04
Just watched the first two episodes--had tivo'd them in the fall and, once the show was cancelled, didn't bother to watch. Loved it! The sad thing is I waited to watch them till now, when all the other shows on TV are reruns--wouldn't this have been the perfect time for Fox to air the rest of the episodes and build some viewer loyalty? Great show, cancelled far too quickly.

The amazing thing about this show is that most people who watched it loved it. This is one of those shows that you'd think "it could be the best". Give it a second chance, put it in a less prime time slot.

Please do not cancel Lonestar...it is one of the best show on tv this year
  • JigsCountry: USA2010-11-28 07:25:02
I think I have fairly good taste as to what I watch and this season the only two new shows on my watch list (and was tuning in to watch live) were the Event (fan of 24 so naturally) and LoneStar. ONLY BIG PROBLEM WHICH YOU DUMB STUDIO EXECS DID NOT SEE OR IGNORED WAS THEY BOTH SHARED THE SAME TIME SLOT. I was totally divided as to which show to watch and ended up watching the EVENT and LoneStar on Hulu or Tivo. I am sure all the fans of the 24 were eager to catch on some super Action/Terrorist/Alien threatening our nation / mankind. And you put LoneStar in the same slot to fight that. As if it was a genius plan to sabotage the show from Day One. This show had all the makings of a hit - awesome cast, storyline/plot, sexy and damn good acting by almost everybody. Studio Execs, If you still have a right frame of mind and if it was a honest mistake, please reconsider the show and put it in a different time slot. The Event though it is loosing its plot a little but you never know when the plot thickens. -Jigs

  • DustCountry: USA2010-11-27 13:29:13
As an avid series watcher I have to say this was turning out to be one of the better shows of the year. Yet it was canceled because a network cannot do a good enough job in advertising it. KEEP THIS SHOW GOING AND ONCE PEOPLE GET TUNED THEY WILL KEEP FOCUSED WEEKLY.
  • j.jCountry: u.s.a2010-11-27 06:59:28
one of the few shows i actually looked forward to see every week.
  • John M.Country: US2010-11-25 07:25:08
Great premise and lots of promise. It's so disappointing that quality shows get showed the door while Mike & Molly, Outsourced, and Running Wilde get picked up. Ugh.
  • MikeCountry: USA2010-11-25 07:21:18
One of the most original and well done shows to premiere on your network in years. Please bring the show back.

Lone Star creator tries to save show | TV Series Finale

[…] So here’s the plan. You go deep. All of you. You and millions of your friends. And Monday night, down by a lot with only seconds on the clock, we’ll throw the ball up, an impossibly long arcing pass into a host of defenders who are taller and flashier and stronger and probably more well endowed than all of us, and maybe, just maybe, it’s one of those moments where the thing everyone said COULD NOT HAPPEN actually just… does. And you my friend, you could say you were there, you and all your friends, just taking one big… Read more »
