While OWN’s dramas don’t get big ratings by broadcast standards, some of them have done quite well on the cable network, which has also recently expanded into comedy, with Tyler Perry’s The Paynes. Now, the Oprah Winfrey Network is splitting the difference with Love Is ___. Does it have what it takes to draw and keep an audience? Will Love Is be cancelled or renewed for season two? An OWN dramedy from showrunner Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, Love Is ___ stars Michele Weaver, Will Catlett, Idara Victor, Tyrone Brown, Kadeem Hardison, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing, and Lana Young. Inspired by the real lives of its executive producers, the TV series explores how a modern “power couple” in “Black Hollywood” balances their professional, personal, and family lives.
