To no surprise, The CW has cancelled their remake of Melrose Place after just one season and 18 episodes.
The new Melrose Place revolves around the same apartment complex as the 1990s original but largely focuses on a new group of characters. The cast includes Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, Shaun Sipos, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Nicholas Gonzalez, Victor Webster, and Brooke Burns. Appearances by actors Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Heather Locklear, Josie Bissett, and Daphne Zuniga help kept ties to the original alive.
In September, despite a lot of promotion, the first episode attracted a small 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.31 million viewers. The numbers fell after that and never came close to even matching the premiere’s. The April 4th episode hit a season low, with a horrific 0.4 rating in the demographic and only .86 million viewers.
Even for The CW, the new Melrose Place’s ratings were absolutely terrible. Though the last episode of the season left many storylines up in the air, there was no way that it was going to be coming back.
Well, the network made it official this week. Melrose Place has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two.
What do you think? Why didn’t this version catch on? Was it a bad idea from the start? Would it have survived if Heather Locklear signed on at the beginning or was including original characters part of why it failed?

Bring back my show or I will stop watching all cw shows
I am pissed it was cancelled!!!! I thought the actors were great and the drama was excellent.
I think that the CW was crazy to cancel good shows like girlfriends, Everybody hates Chris, The Game, One on One, Half and Half, All of Us and others just so they can make room for stupid remakes that don’t get good ratings. They canceled the Game only for BET to buy it and revamp it and when it premieres they are going to feel so stupid because the show has been giving BET some of its highest ratings ever.
I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Melrose Place…why did it cancel? They should have kept it
this was a great show. I loved the original series and watched it every week and I loved the new one too. CW it is true you don’t know how to market it better and listen to the real viewers instead of people in a locked up test room to base your ratings on. this was a great show along with the beautiful life.
Ughhh i cant believe they cancelled this show i loved it
I was sooo excited to see Melrose 2009, but let’s face it, folks, it was boooorrinnng with bad actors, and even worse story lines!! They should have given Heather Locklear more screentime. She was the only reason why the original lasted so long. Duh!
I liked it a lot thats why i got on here to see if it was coming back! That sucks! But I do like 90210 way better! 🙂
I actually enjoyed the show– lots of drama! Although Ashlee Simpson wasn’t the best actress for the part, she surprised me- she did better than I thought she would. Sad to see the show go…
Ha ha ha I knew it! I said that from day one! Ok this show was so horrible, is it really a surprise? First of all, I love 90210 and have been watching since I was younger, I think that because the new 90210 was successful, they assumed Melrose would be too, but copycats never prosper. Melrose had a horrible cast, bad acting (ashlee simpson-wetz…lol…) And bad story lines. I’m happy to see it go, it made room for Hellcats lol..
BRING IT BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
great show,bring it back
I LOVE IT…WHY DO THEY NOT MARKET IT BETTER…COME ON CW!
I hate to even start new shows if They are going to cancel after 1 season…. I loved Melrose Place!! So sad to see it go!! It had alot of potential with bringign bwck old charcters.

I loved it. Sorry to see it go.
