TV show description:
This comedy series follows a single mother named Christy (Anna Faris) who is newly sober and decides to restart her life in the Napa Valley in California. Her sobriety is tested by her mother, Bonnie (Allison Janney), who introduced alcohol and drugs to Christy at an early age and is also in recovery.
Bonnie’s working on repairing their mother-daughter relationship and is all too happy to offer insights into Christy’s mistakes.
Christy’s children are Violet (Sadie Calvano) a sarcastic 16-year-old, and Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal), an innocent and honest pre-teen. Violet has a sexually-active relationship with a long-haired clueless dude named Luke (Spencer Daniels) and Christy is worried that her daughter will repeat her mistake of dropping out and becoming a teen mother.
To make matters worse, Roscoe’s father, Baxter (Matt Jones), is back in the picture — at least for as long as the red van he lives in isn’t towed away.
Christy gets a job as a waitress at a posh restaurant that’s managed by Gabriel (Nick Corddry). He’s very supportive of her and they share a sexual attraction — unfortunately, he has a snotty wife named Claudia. Rudy (French Stewart) is the establishment’s thoughtless and temperamental head chef.
Christy tries to remain as positive as she can while pursuing her new path in life. Unfortunately, it’s an uphill battle thanks to a very dysfunctional support system.
Episode #170 — My Kinda People and the Big To-Do
Bonnie gains a new outlook on her sobriety after dealing with difficult news. Also, Jill and Andy take a big step in their relationship.
First aired: May 6, 2021.
What do you think? Do you like the Mom TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a ninth season?
Never should have killed off Alvin! He completed the show! Don’t know how you are going to bring him back, but for the success of this show, I think you should!
Have you not met Adam yet? Don’t lose out, He is so much better suited for Bonnie
I hope writters found the way to bring Alvin back to the show on next episode, or do something quickly to give us a character with the same freshness of Kevin Pollack, because the awful life of Christy and her unsympathetic children are no adding comedy or anything to the show. The only thing that is going hilarious is the sarcasm and cynical behavior of Bonnie..
Please, cut off Roscoe and his father… Maybe the show can be rescued now that Alvin is gone.
I am not going to say that I would rather have had Roscoe’s father die, yet really what smarts & support can he really provide? He is living off another woman. Alvin grew up & I feel should have had a main character role. So Chuck, just like other network producers, you do not CARE what the viewers want as a storyline. I still will not watch MOM anymore. So sick of most shows killing characters off rather than giving them an exciting, substantial development of their character’s potential. Push the envelope & be unique I say to the POWERS… Read more »
WHY did they have him die? He was great on the show!!
So glad others agree. This show is excellent, actresses/actors superb. ALVIN completed the show. You should not have written his character into the scenes, & then kill him off like he was an EXTRA. I have a feeling that Violet’s father will appear soon. Now Christy lied & brought Violet to the cemetery along with Bonnie. Christy painted him as an awful person. I will not be watching though. I really did LOVE MOM when the WHOLE Plunket family, along with Alvin were together. Kevin Pollack you are an ace. Thank you for completing the family picture.
I do not know why they decided to stupidly kill off Alvin. Maybe he wanted to leave & if he did, the writers could have written him out without making his exit permanent! This would leave the door open for him to come back. The writers are like babys. They throw a tantrum before they think. Thanks for caring about this like I do. I don’t think its funny to have someone you love die while being intimate. Especially since this love match was taking a nice turn.
We used to look forward to a fun filled evening watching MOM. Even though COMEDY can also be a tragedy, I choose to watch uplifting shows. I was deeply disappointed that the writers chose to use the same tired DEATH card/theme, instead of just writing the character off the program. I do not find this funny & I actually loved that Bonnie got a second chance with love. To me, the character of Alvin became a MAIN character, even though the credits list Kevin Pollack in a reoccurring role. Kevin is stupendous on his own & he added to the… Read more »
I TOO FEEL ALVIN SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN KILLED OFF. HE MADE THE SHOW FUNNY
NO DISRESPECT TO BEVERLYDIANGELO I CAN’T PUT HER AS ALVI S WIFE
PLEASE BRING HIM BACK IN DREAM S OR AS A SPIRIT ..WE NEED TO SEE MORE AND WHAT HAPPENED TO LUKE?
Mary
I am glad others agree that Alvin SHOULD not have been giving the proverbial AX! Kevin Pollack is a seasoned comedian who ADDED to MOMs wackiness. Alvin was a perfect companion for Bonnie & completed the Plunket family. I do wish the person who cut out the role of Alvin, asked the viewers what they thought. Stupid move on CBS’s part. I know my opinion does not matter & me kicking MOM’s sitcom to the curb will not affect the ratings. Loved the cast & will watch something else. This is not an espionage thriller where it is necessary to… Read more »
I love the show! It’s fun and touches the heart in a funny way. I don’t want it to be canceled!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this show? Why was Alvin killed off?!
I think he was originally just a guest star..that could not go far..hey, that rhymes!
Chuck Lorre IS a writer genius after all so I am sure this is just a ‘bend in the road, not the end in the road’ in this sitcom. It will be exciting to see what Chuck (God of sitcoms) decides to do in the future as this family deals with the aftermath of Alvin’s passing and learns how to deal with its grief.
We can be assured that it will be FUNNAY!! I can hardly wait!!
I love this show you can laugh, cry, think, feel, then laugh again.
But why oh why did we kill Elvin
Love Mom still but SCREAM! I am SO NOT HAPPY about Alvin dropping dead however very funny HOW he dropped dead. And the first scenes in the funeral, HILARIOUS! But from my own personal life experiences, this made a rock come up deep inside and I felt a little sick when he died. Pretty sure this happened to alot of us!
Anyway, Chuck Lorre obviously thinks MOM will be better if Alvin dies. Chuck, you are representing God to millions of people. Watch yourself! (LOL)
No seriously, THANK YOU Chuck Lorre for writing such a great show!
I enjoyed Alvin’s sweet, loving spirit – why did you have to kill him off? Both he and Roscoe are so refreshing. Love the show.
I love this show mom I watch every Thursday. And the Big Bang theory
Amazing funny, show. Lead actors are brilliant. Please don’t cancel.
Except the son is Roscoe – the boyfriend is Luke.
Thanks
KEEP this show. One of the funniest on TV.
I can’t believe anyone thought to cancel this show. There are way too many bad comedies on TV today. Mom is hysterical. I can’t wait to watch this show. I almost like it more than Big Bang, and I love Big Bang. The way the characters play off of each other is priceless. Allison Janney is wonderful. I’ve only seen her in serious roles. Anna Faris is a gem as well. Gosh, even my parents are tuning in now to watch it, and I’m a baby boomer.
Please cancel. Filthy Two and a Half men type humor. If not cancelled, should not be on prior to 10PM at night to minimize its exposure to children.
@monk: Although children should not be watching some shows and maybe even this one, I would say to you that there’s a difference between filthy and real language. As a old hippie chick with lots of mistakes and learning experiences behind me, I identify with this REAL WORLD show a whole lot and only wish it would be a hour long instead of the piddly thirty minutes.
So true, Sunshine. Take off the horribly violence on TV. That is much more harmful than this playful show. It does depict real world situations. The humor is very benign. If Monk doesn’t want her children to watch it, she should turn off the TV.
Although my reply comes several years and seasons into the future, I appreciate your comment and I believe it’s just as valid and applicable today as when it was posted. Kudos for your ability to covey your point of view so concisely and an offenseless manner!
I really like the show Mom.
The casting is on spot, the story line hysterical
Do not cancel
This is a really good show. The acting is superb. I can not imagine this show would be cancelled when so many show are rewed that are just not good.
Please do not cancel this show. We look forward to every episode.
When does the new season of Mom begin?
10/30
