The battle for humanity’s survival is ending earlier than hoped The FOX network has cancelled the neXt TV series so there won’t be a second season, a victim of low ratings and COVID-19.
An action-thriller series, the neXt TV show stars John Slattery, Elizabeth Cappuccino, Jason Butler Harner, Fernanda Andrade, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Michael Mosley, Evan Whitten, and Gerardo Celasco. The story revolves around Silicon Valley pioneer Paul LeBlanc (Slattery) who built a fortune and his legacy on his world-changing innovations.
After discovering that one of his own creations — a powerful artificial intelligence called “neXt” — might spell doom for humankind, Paul tried to shutter the project, only to be kicked out of the company by his own brother (Harner). When a series of unsettling tech mishaps points to a potential worldwide crisis, LeBlanc joins forces with Special Agent Shea Salazar (Andrade) and her unique and talented team. Now, they are the only ones standing in the way of a potential global catastrophe, fighting an emergent superintelligence that will deploy the immense knowledge it has gleaned from the data all around us to recruit allies, turn people against each other, and eliminate obstacles to its own survival and growth.
The first season of neXt averages a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.67 million viewers. Just two episodes have been aired thus far. The third has been released on Hulu but didn’t air on FOX because of the World Series. It’s the network’s lowest-rated show out of the 10 current series.
Variety reports that FOX plans to air the remaining seven installments of the season. The network also cancelled the low-rated Filthy Rich series today. Both were reportedly cancelled thanks to low ratings and rising production costs due to COVID-19.

What do you think? Have you seen the neXt TV series on FOX? Would you have watched a second season of this action-thriller series?
NOooooooo. Please quit cancelling decent shows. This is pretty much my only MUST SEE TV. This has to be one of the most relevant shows this season, from the rapidly approaching AI in our daily lives (tech hacking), to the so easily manipulated social media streams (thought hacking)
Please don’t cancel. There are not many good new relevant shows to watch. AI is a hot topic and one to be wary of and this show exposed that.
I would definitely have watched a season two!! I love the series and I hope one of the other networks will pick it up!!
Two show get ax”s for premier due to low viewership 1. Was firfty rich. After 5 episodes. The other was NEXT after episode 2. I like firfty rich. I never saw NEXT but I figured if you can’t get people to watch when they closed all the entertainment places.
Yes, I have been watching and looking forward to each upcoming episode. However, I do not want to be left hanging without an episode that brings closure to the storyline.
Super disappointed it was canceled. Great concept. Doubt I’ll watch the remaining episodes, assuming it will end in a cliff hanger.
If you like(d) “neXt” read “The Adolescense of P-1” – It is clearly the basis of this series even though never given that credit.

I was eagerly awaiting this series and hoping for more series to follow
I was wondering why episode 4 was taking so long, but now I know the series has been canceled I’m disappointed.
Like how click-bait this site has become – it always was a once off event
I’ve never read anywhere that it was a mini-series and I’m betting it ends with cliffhangers. Limited series just means a set number of episodes (no back-orders) and they are usually open-ended so you can have more seasons if the ratings are good enough. Under the Dome (3 seasons), Killer Women (cancelled after 1 season), and Luther (5 seasons) were all marketed as limited series.
Yes I loved it and the concept of it. I would have easily watched another season of it if they would have continued it. It just seems they didn’t give it enough of a chance to catch hold before they canceled it. I was hooked before the first episode air just by watching the TV trailer of it.
Liked what I saw of “Next”so far. The title might have put off some people. Really didn’t know what it was about until a friend suggested it. Sorry we won’t get to see a second season. Great concept.
Liked the show and was totally into it. Super disappointed it’s been cancelled. 🙁
Good show but won’t watch remaining episodes if it’s not going to continue.
I think it’s a great show! It’s a little creepy to think that AI could get to the level shown on the series. Disappointed that it’s been canceled.
