While some shows are getting orders for additional episodes, Numb3rs has just had its number cut by CBS. How does this bode for the drama’s chances for a seventh season?
As Friday night viewers know, Numb3rs revolves around an FBI agent (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother (David Krumholtz) who helps solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series is currently in its sixth season, having debuted in January 2005. For the show’s entire run, it’s been a staple of CBS’ Friday night schedule in the 10pm position.
In its first season, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the demo and 11.1 million viewers. In season two, the show’s ratings rose to an average rating of 3.3 and 11.7 million viewers. Overall viewership has dropped since then. Last season was watched by an average of 9.75 million and the demo was 2.2.

This season however has been a different story. Numb3rs’ numbers are way down. It’s fallen all the way down to a 1.7 rating in the all-important demo. Overall viewership has also dropped to an average of 7.9 million viewers.
If you look at these figures, it’s not hard to understand why CBS has decided to cut this season’s order from 22 to 16 episodes. In addition, the network already has a couple other dramas that can take its place, including Flashpoint — a show that’s cheaper and already proven to work on Friday nights.
What does this mean for Numb3rs’ future and its chances for a seventh season? The episode cut doesn’t mean anything in itself but the ratings that caused it certainly do. The show is already in syndication and, now in its sixth year, the show is quite difficult to produce. Unless the ratings return to their previous level, the show will surely be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you be sorry to see the show cancelled or would you like to watch a seventh season?

The viewership declined when the cast began to change and characters were dropped.
It is still a very good show with a firm following, but once again trying to short change the talent or make talent decisions that effect the quality of the show have placed a good thing in danger of cancelation.
FIGURES!!! CBS is ******** up again, about to loose 4 cast members from NCIS, won’t give Marg Helgenburger a new contract from CSI and now the news of cancelling Numbers, way to go CBS!!! I’m done with this network, no wonder the cable station USA is doing far better than ABC, CBS & NBC. The old networks are just plain GREEDY!! I think we have had enough doctor shows to last a lifetime and if Numbers get cancelled I will not watch CBS on a friday night no matter whats on.
Numbers is one of the best shows on tv; I rarely watch and this one is more thought provoking than most
DON’T CANCEL NUMBERS!!! Finally a show that works !! It caters to the middle age and young – why cancel it. Miami Medical darn another medical show!!!! You hype up medical shows that are never what reality in health care is!!! Stop the medical shows and keep the action.
I cannot live with out numb3rs… I love it, no matter how stressful life gets, theres always numb3rs. I don’t watch alot of tv, just 2hrs a week. Numb3rs, every week. I really LOVE it. The only let down was the last episode because the finality of it was horifying.
The networks only think in astounding audiences. They don’t care about quality shows. It happened to Farscape and Firefly. Numb3rs is an amazing show that has to be saved at all costs. Quality tv depends on it.
A great show, never a let down.
If it aint broke do’nt fix it.
Seems par for the course, the network is looking for those numbers that make them richer not the numbers that are entertaining. Putting a show that is just another soap about who is out ******** around while they are out ********. I find this appauling.
What a loss it will be if CBS cancels Numb3rs on Friday nights. I have not watched Miami Medical, now in its time slot, and I do NOT intend to do so. I find it difficult to believe that a show based in Los Angeles is difficult to produce. I’m no Geek, but math is beautiful, and that is proven in a well done show like Numb3rs. Give us as break!
Seems like every show I watch gets cancelled. I would be very disappointed if Numb3rs were cancelled. I luv this show.
Numb3rs was the ons show my wife and I have looked forward to seeing each week. Very sad to see it go.
My family and me enjoyed numbers. It seems Jerry Bruckheimer’s shows are taking over the industry. I love the CSI shows and Cold case, but Miami medical seems a little weak.
What else would anyone expect from a station that wants to cater to the 17 – 20 year olds? Numb3rs is a great show with good story lines, family values, some violence and even math to learn. Bring it back.
Of course what else would you expect from CBS they cancel anything that isn’t catering to an immature 17 year old or isn’t a reality show which is basically watching people make idiots of themselves. Oh thats right thats what they cater to. Bring Numbers back for another season and then maybe you won’t have to the more obscure channels for viewers.
