ABC’s mid-season medical drama, Off the Map, recently concluded its first season on the air. The alphabet network’s been looking for a new hit drama and this one was produced by veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. How does Off the Map stack up? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two?
Off the Map revolves around six doctors who have “lost their way” and travel to a remote South American jungle to help those in need and to try to rediscover the reasons why they wanted to become physicians. The series features the talents of Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The medical drama premiered with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The TV series won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. ABC decided to give Off the Map another chance to attract viewers by rerunning the first episode the following night, in place of a Private Practice rerun, and it retained much of the Grey’s Anatomy lead-in audience.
Unfortunately, that’s still not a great start and subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Off the Map is the second-lowest scripted series on ABC that hasn’t already been officially cancelled, averaging a 1.7 in the demo and 4.96 million viewers. It ranks below doomed No Ordinary Family and just above doomed Detroit 1-8-7. In short, unless ABC really needs to keep Shonda Rhimes happy, there is no reason why the network would bring Off the Map back next year for season two.

I absolutely love this show it is fantastic i just wish i had known about it sooner. the show is amazing but the advertising for it was weak and a lot of people i know had never heard of it but when i showed it to them they LOVED it too.
I love this show and think it would do better in a diffrent time slot. I work crazy hours and watch it on line every week. Not bringing the show back would leave 4 shows a week worth watching!!!

I’m seeing a lot more love for this show here than I believed there was – so many people saying it’s their favourite show.
I think that’s a great sign that this show has a lot of growth potential from word-of-mouth etc, if only they have the foresight at ABC!
Yes they really need to take into account DVRs. I really like this show a lot I hope it gets
saved but I’m afraid it is going to be doomed if two of the actors have already jumped to other shows 🙁
I really love the show! The scenery is great and the characters are unique and likeable. I would miss it. I don’t even like to watch TV, but this was a show that I looked forward to watching after the kids went to bed.
I want to know if she gets a heart damn it! I love this show so much that i got my husband into it and it is the only thing he will watch with me! DO NOT CANCEL!
Off the Map has been my new favorite show. I’m really hoping it comes back for another season at a better time.
How do we stop ‘Off the Map’ from being cancelled, its a great show, just needs to be in another time slot…there are so many nights where there is nothing on and then they put it on a night with other already established shows….Keep ‘Off the Map;

I love “Off the Map” and I think it should be continued! I also think that with the technology that’s out there they would have figured out a way to see who DVR’s the show and watches it that way. I don’t watch any shows “live”. Please keep Off the Map!

I love this show. Its going to be horrible if they cancel it and leave it at such a hugh cliffhanger. I want to know what happens to Mateo and Ryan. I agree that the show would have better rating if it was moved to 9pm instead of 10pm. Plus you have to take into account all the people that record it and watch it later on their DVRs.
