Though the switch has been coming for months, lots of Passions fans were still in shock when the residents of Harmony left NBC after eight seasons. On September 17th, Passions began its ninth season on DirecTV’s exclusive Channel 101. For a variety of reasons, not all of the fans could follow the soap and went into serious withdrawal. Well, DirecTV has heard the fans and has officially announced that Passions will be available online.
Eric Shanks, executive vice president of DirectTV Entertainment says, “Since we announced the Passions move to DirecTV, we’ve had a significant response from fans requesting that we continue to stream the show online. We know that Passions fans are religious about keeping up with the happenings in Harmony, and are happy to be able to offer them the option of an online subscription if they can’t make the switch to DirecTV. Now fans can catch the daytime drama anywhere, anytime by signing up for the monthly subscription.”

Unfortunately, as suspected, the subscription won’t be free. Production of the soap is funded by the satellite provider and they need to find a way to pay for it. Starting on Monday, you’ll be able to view new episodes of Passions online at NBC.com — for the price of $19.95 a month. Every episode will be posted online daily and will be hosted on the site for eight weeks.
Is the price worth it? In October, there will be 19 new episodes of Passions (remember there will only be four episodes a week). That comes out to a cost of $1.05 per episode — about the cost of a song on iTunes. Unfortunately, the cost certainly adds up over time ($239.40 a year) and you won’t be able to download or keep the episodes. For those who can’t afford a subscription, NBC is continuing to post synopses of each episode online. Is your love of all things Harmony worth $19.95 a month? What do you think? Stay tuned!
I can’t believe you people, why did you do this to me!lol, no seriously, I hope Direct TV thinks about how many viewers they could be gaining. Because of their decision to charge such a high price to see this show online I’m sure it won’t be a success as it was on NBC. What about 19.95 for the whole year? That sounds more reasonable. Grrrrrrrrrr I need to see Ethan. A**holes
hmm to pay for what has been free for so long, that is terrible. you should be able to watch online just as we always have. I started watching wiwth my teen daughter as a means to be able to atleast do something with her that wasn’t fighting, booo for taking that away, *S*. I do miss it too……..
put passion back on nbc please please please we missed it very much and i haven’t seen it for a long time.
put passions back on internet so we can watch the show. and not charge for it
I’ve been watching Passions since it first aired. I am very disappointed with NBC, the Today Show was already on long enough and even if they wanted to make it longer there were alot of other shows they could have cancelled other than Passions. I love Passions but I won’t pay to watch it. I think I have a solution if we band together on it. Why doesn’t Soap Net show it? It shows all of the other soaps. I say we get together and write Direct TV and Soap Net.
I THINK THAT SINCE WE WERE ABLE TO SEE PASSIONS ONLINE BEFORE THE SELLOUT, THINGS SHOULD STAY THE SAME. THE TAPES ARE ALREADY MADE,AND THE TECHNOLOGY TO DOWNLOAD INTO THE ONLINE SERVER IS STILL THERE SO WHY WOULD WE THE VIEWERS HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT’S BEEN FREE IN THE PAST AND WILL ONLY HELP TO KEEP THE SHOW RATINGS COLLECTIVELY UP IN THE RATINGS–WHICH IS WHAT WILL MAKE US ALL HAPPY!
I think that it will cost too much. Many of us already have to pay for satillite or cable. This really sucks. I take college classes and scheduled my classes around Passions and now I cannot watch it.
We shouldn’t have to pay to to watch episodes that have been free for years. The parent company makes more then enough money to offer this service for free. I can’t afford Direct TV, not would it work at my house surrounded by trees that block the satellite signal. I’m out from watching my favorit show and I can tell over the last 2 weeks how much I really miss it. It’s the comical relief for my stressful day and I love the sotry lines and actors. If the execs heard us to have there episodes on-line, maybe there change… Read more »
well, we asked for Passions online…
i think i may actually consider it.
i love Passions 🙂
I miss watching Passions and paying 19.95 a month is a bit to much, but i have come across a website that offers 3000 different shows and hopefully passions will be on that. The cost of that is 39.00 a year. The web site is Qualitytvtopc .com . I haven’t had a chance to look over the site to much yet like i said i’m not sure if passions is even there, if not i guess i’ll order this for a month on and a month off and catch up.
I am on disability, I cannot afford to pay for the show at all, I have been watching Passions since it’s first episode. I am very upset that it left NBC and it was free with my cable. I cannot switch to DirectTV and cannot afford anymore money than I already pay, it’s rediculous. You should consider the elderly and disabled people in society that cannot afford the little things in life that we enjoy.
This is the biggest crock of sh*t, I am enraged to have to pay for a show I have watched for years for free. Direct TV sucks. I love passions but will not pay 19.95 a month to watch it the most I will pay is 4.95 take it or leave.
I could see paying $19.95 if you could watch all DirecTv show, but not for I series! Maybe acouple of dollars per month.
if i would like to pay $10.00 or less a month require add closes caption for hearing impaired… smile
I think it’s too much. but maybe you could subscribe for a month, watch thos episods, unsubscribe for a month or two and then catch up since theyre gonna keep the episodes online for 8 weeks. I could afford $10 a month.
