Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, Patriot stars Michael Dorman, Michael Chernus, Terry O’Quinn, Kathleen Munroe, Kurtwood Smith, Aliette Opheim, Chris Conrad, Julian Richings, Gil Bellows, and Marcus Toji.
This political thriller follows intelligence officer John Tavner (Dorman). With only his unsafe “non-official cover” as a mid-level employee at an industrial piping firm, Tavner is on assignment to stop Iran from going nuclear. Lingering PTSD, governmental ineptitude, and meeting the requirements of his cover, cause spiraling blunders which threaten his mission. His penchant for smoking pot and writing all too confessional folks songs don’t help matters. And then there’s the trail of dead and maimed bodies he leaves in his wake.
The pilot episode of Patriot was first released in November 2015 with the rest of the first season being unveiled in February 2017. The show was renewed for a second season in April 2017 and those 8 episodes were released in November 2018. With the cancellation, the spy series is capped with a total of 18 episodes.

“LIVID”, as someone else put it on this thread, is how I feel, as well. “ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS WITH DISBELIEF” might be closer. This show is – BY FAR – the best television I’ve ever, ever seen. Full stop. And I say that without caveats for the many outstanding shows there have been: Breaking Bad, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Sopranos, GoT, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, etc. Patriot is an absolute masterpiece. Well said!! I agree 100% with your entire assessment. Too bad it was titled Patriot – a fatal mistake – especially since the word has sadly, unbelievably developed a bad connotation these days.

This is a tragedy! Amazon come on? This is one of the best shows on streaming networks. If it was promoted properly when the pilot was released it may have more viewers. The writing is compelling and the acting is flawless. Please do not cancel! Do we need to start a petition?
fully in support of a petition. Although I have to imagine that announcements like this are like a starting gun, and the cast and crew start calling all the people they’d been keeping on hold, but yeah, I’d sign and actively promote the petition.
This saddens me. Felt like Amazon never really invested in promoting it. The show was excellent; great writing, stellar cast, great premise. The second season was just as good, if not better than the first one to me. Hope something causes them to change their mind, need more John Tavner and his folk song therapy!
Goodness. I thought this might happen. Smartest show on television had no place to live among the countless drab episodes of swill out there. Such a great show. Cut down before it could get a broad following.
Perfectly summed up. Sounds about right,hm?.. somehow the best streaming series gets cancelled. But, lucky for us, we still have Housewives Of Who Gives a Sh*t.. as well as, Naked and Stupid.
The BEST show on TV. TYPICAL. Leave some stupid reality show(Bachelor, Love Island) and cancel a smart, quality, entertaining show.
Patriot was best show ever. Nothing will top it in my opinion.
It is/was an amazing show. It was quirky, but thoughtful. Funny. Suspenseful. Well acted. Great cast. I really hope that someone like Netflix or HBO picks it up. Really is one of the top shows on TV. I think Amazon for some reason didn’t promote it enough.
ugh. I wanna cry!!!! the show was so ingenious and flawlessly acted, cinematography were eye candy, music were cleverly selected for a scene (root down – beastie boys when edward was trying to return the book in season 1) and the deadpan humor heals people!! like me! 🙁 So smartly written! there are not a lot of intelligent shows around anymore just more and more trashy reality shows. I’m about to eat a pint of ice cream

I’m crushed! Who decides these things? Idiots who aren’t intelligent enough to see the hilarity in Patriot’s sophisticated writing, no doubt. This show is so far superior to 99% of the pap we’re fed. Not crushed… LIVID!
This is a crying shame–just like Santa Clarita Diet getting cancelled by Netflix. Not sure whether its worth my time to get invested in some of these streaming shows if they aren’t given a proper ending

Omg, 1 of the best show, cinematography, acting, music, storyline – unbelievably canceled. WTF, I’m canceling amazon as soon as the next season of Sneaky Pete airs.
Sneaky Pete was also cancelled. But that show had it’s run. Patriot was so good.
I was a big fan of Sneaky Pete, although I felt like the storyline for each new season was a little less strong than the preceding season. Acting was still great. Giovanni’s great and I to see Marin in more things – she’s got the gift of realism – would never know she was acting.
