Pennyworth is staying around for another season. EPIX announced on Wednesday that the series would return for a second season in 2020. Production will start on 10 more episodes of the series in January. Season one wrapped on September 29.
Jack Bannon and Ben Aldridge star on the series as Alfred Pennyworth and Thomas Wayne. The series is set in 1960s London before the birth of Bruce Wayne.
EPIX revealed more about the renewal of Pennyworth in a press release. Check that out below.
“Premium cable network EPIX(R) announced today that Pennyworth, its critically-acclaimed DC drama from Warner Horizon Scripted Television, will return for season two. The 10-episode sophomore season will commence production in the UK in January 2020 – filming once again at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden – with an eye towards a 2020 premiere on EPIX.
The one-hour drama series follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British SAS soldier who goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who has not yet become Bruce Wayne’s father, in 1960s London.
Said Michael Wright, President, EPIX, “Pennyworth has been a big hit for us, embraced by critics and fans alike. It was the highest-performing original series ever to premiere on EPIX, more than doubling the viewership of the shows that came before it. Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon and WBTV have delivered a brilliant, must watch series. We can’t wait to work with this phenomenal cast and creative team on another exciting season.”
In addition to Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game, Ripper Street) and Ben Aldridge (Our Girl, Fleabag), Pennyworth season one stars included Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), Dorothy Atkinson (Mr. Turner, Topsy-Turvy), Ian Puleston-Davies (Coronation Street), Polly Walker (Rome, Caprica), with multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith, and Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
Pennyworth is from executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist, Rome) and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI series). The series is based characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Pennyworth? Will you watch season two?
Outstanding choice by EPIX. We are seeing the original idea run out at Netlfix quite quickly and this was a great find (and the new Get Shorty take).
I literally found by mistake and loved the story lines; pacing and general “cheekiness. I hope that the path to Alfred being a servant vs crime fighter is done carefully and slowly; as he is way more interesting in his current role (as the Queen’s go to man).
Pennyworth is great! Please, please continue the series!
Love this step back into the story of Alfred, dark, funny, and so extra! It’s great!
I literally can’t enough of the story line.
I am so glad that this series has been picked up for another season. I just hope that it continues till at least we see when master Bruce is born and then decide how To go forward in the story of Alfred and young masterWayne.
Love this show will be there for season two.
