What’s next for Poldark? Digital Spy reports season five may be the last for the BBC One TV show.
The period drama, which airs on PBS in the U.S., follows Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner), a British soldier who returns to his English home after fighting in the American Revolution. The cast also includes Eleanor Tomlinson, Ruby Bentall, Beatie Edney, and Jack Farthing.
In a recent interview, Turner told Digital Spy season five could be the final season for Poldark:
You don’t want things to go on too long and just limp out the backdoor. So I think next year [the fifth series] might be the last one – certainly for a while. We may come back. Who knows?”
However, it’s not all bad news. Turner said he may return to the UK series in 10 years or so since there’s a big time jump in the novels:
The jump is huge. But I’m not putting grey in my hair [for the next series] or anything like that. I’ll come back in 10 years and revisit it the right way.”
Season five of Poldark is slated to debut on BBC One in June. PBS has yet to announce a U.S. premiere date.
What do you think? Do you watch Poldark? How many more seasons do you want?
It truly is amazing that a wonderful show like Poldark has to come to an end. What’s even more sad is that you move it from Amazon Prime , which we already pay for to PBS which means now we have to pay for Season 5. It’s not right that we are paying for everything now. I wish they’d quit charging the consumers for all the good shows. It’s amazing how much garbage is on the television, this is insane.
We need more this is the only reason I pay extra for PBS masterpiece well and for the Durrells! Well I guess if both of them get canceled my bill will go down because I will be canceling my contract! They always end the good shows and keep the crappy ones, I for one would like to know who makes these decisions they need to be let go instead of the shows! Sincerely an American fan. Please wake up keep Poldark and the Durrells going at least till you have a few more like them two shows. Save a fan… Read more »
I Can’t get enough Please keep it going .
Love the Poldark series. Would be sad if it’s discontinued!!!
I would be willing to wait 10 years to see the continuation of the next books on the series.
So enjoy the series and want it to continue. Love the costumes, acting, and scenery…there isn’t anything bad to say about this show
I’m 60 and remember the old series very well. I really do prefer Angharad Rees as Demelza.
Just another great British show Cannot get enough
Not many times have I latched on to a tv program like I have with Poldark…after I started the new version, I purchased the 70s version and watched it ( was quite young when it first aired)….the new version, hands down, is the best…I already knew of Aidan Turner from the Hobbit trilogy, and thought he was so dreamy….it’s rare to say that someone was meant to play a certain role, but I can’t imagine anyone else portraying Ross Poldark….he has made the role his own….yes, I hate to see the end on the horizon, but we still have seasons… Read more »
Will probably be the same as last time, they didn’t make the time jump then either.
I can watch Poldark forever. love the characters. The evil blokes are the best and so believable. Poldark is stunning to the eye and so is his stage wife. Favorite are the cliffs of Cornwall [ ? ] ‘nuf said.
I will be sad to see Poldark come to an end. I’ve watched every episode of every season. But… i don’t want the show to “Jump the shark” like too many good tv shows have done. So, let it ebd on a high note.
They jumped the shark when they whored out the wife. “Oh, I’m dying and i need you to sleep with me.” That’s all it took to ruin their moral compass?
Wonderful series. The cast does a great job making the characters convincing. Will hate to see it end!
I absolutely will be crushed if it ends, my favorite series in the world, have already watched the last three seasons twice
No! Say it isn’t so. Let continue as long as it can.
Love the series.
Another favorite show ending. It’s a bummer to like watching tv. Also a bummer to be in any other demographic than 18-49.
