Here’s the press release:
HISTORY(R) RENEWS HIT DRAMA SERIES ‘PROJECT BLUE BOOK’ FOR A 10 EPISODE SECOND SEASON FROM A+E STUDIOS AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ROBERT ZEMECKIS
#1 NEW CABLE SERIES THIS TV SEASON AVERAGING 3.4 MILLION TOTAL VIEWERS
Pasadena, Calif. – February 10, 2019 – HISTORY’s hit UFO drama series “Project Blue Book,” from A+E Studios and Academy Award and Golden Globe(R) winning executive producer Robert Zemeckis, has landed a 10-episode sophomore season. “Project Blue Book” is the #1 new series on cable among total viewers this TV season, averaging 3.4 million viewers in Live+3 delivery. Since the series debuted, HISTORY is the #1 entertainment network in cable on Tuesday nights in prime among total viewers.
“We are believers in ‘Project Blue Book’ and so is our audience who has sparked a conversation about the hundreds of unsolved cases and our nation’s military response to UFOs that have remained relatively secret until now,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming, HISTORY. “Zemeckis, A+E Studios and our extraordinary creative team have shaped a compelling narrative that is the perfect blend of historical authenticity and entertainment that inspires curiosity in our viewers to learn more. We’ve touched on a very relevant topic and look forward to a second season.”
“Project Blue Book” is based on the true, top-secret investigations into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force in the 1950s and 60s and stars Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”) and Michael Malarkey (“The Vampire Diaries”). New episodes of “Project Blue Book” air Tuesdays at 10PM ET/PT on HISTORY.
“Project Blue Book” is inspired by the personal experiences of Dr. J. Allen Hynek (Gillen), a brilliant college professor recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead this clandestine operation (Project Blue Book) that researched thousands of cases, over 700 of which remain unsolved to this day. Each episode will draw from the actual case files blending UFO theories with authentic historical events from one of the most mysterious eras in United States history. Throughout the season, true to life, documented occurrences will be explored such as the Flatwoods Monster incident that took place in West Virginia, the Gorman Dogfight of Fargo, North Dakota, the Lubbock Lights of Lubbock, Texas and the Chiles-Whitted UFO Incident of Montgomery, Alabama among many others. Delving into themes such as trust, instinct, real news vs. fake news and government cover-up, “Project Blue Book” straddles the world of science and the exploration of the unknown.
The drama series also stars Neal McDonough (“Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow”) as General James Harding, a confident and perceptive general responsible for heading the Air Force’s new division – Project Blue Book, Michael Harney (“Orange Is The New Black,” Soy Nero) as General Hugh Valentine, a USAF General both overseeing and keeping a close eye on General Harding’s new division, Laura Mennell (Watchmen, “The Man in the High Castle”) as Mimi Hynek, Dr. J. Allen Hynek’s wife, and Ksenia Solo (Black Swan, “Lost Girl”) as Susie Miller, a stylish woman whose stealthy charm goes deeper than what meets the eye.
“Project Blue Book” joins HISTORY’s original scripted roster, which includes anchor hit series “Vikings,” and Knights Templar drama series “Knightfall” which will premiere its second season this spring with Mark Hamill joining the cast.
“Project Blue Book” is an A+E Studios production in association with Compari Entertainment, a division of ImageMovers. Robert Zemeckis (Contact, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump), Jack Rapke (Cast Away, Flight) and Jackie Levine (Allied, The Walk) are executive producers for Compari Entertainment. David O’Leary serves as creator, executive producer and writer, with Sean Jablonski (“Suits,” “Nip/Tuck”) serving as showrunner, executive producer and writer. Barry Jossen serves as executive producer. Arturo Interian serves as executive producer for HISTORY. A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights for “Project Blue Book.”

What do you think? Did you enjoy watching the first season of Project Blue Book on History? Are you glad that it’s been renewed for season two?
Love the show, but subplot with his wife and the Soviet agent really detracts from the show. I find myself fast forwarding during these segments.
I can’t wait for Season 2. This is one of my favorite shows and I’m left wanting more at the end of each episode. I love this show.
Outstanding series. Listened to Dr. Hynek give a speech at UW-Oshkosh with my dad while a young teen. A UFO buff for decades. The last episode was fantastic! Looking forward to Season 2!
Awesome show.i will continue to watch every season. I hope it lasts for years.great show. We haven’t had anything this good on tv in a long time.
Great series but A&E needs to include the Lonnie Zamora case in season 2. This is the case that turned Dr. Hynek from a skeptic to a believer. This case should be covered in at least 2 episodes.
I love it
Great series. Love it.
Great new sci-fi show. I really liked the X-File and now have a similar
program to watch. Different, but still mysterious.
Great new sci-fi program with an X-File undertow. Keep it going
because I will watch the reruns even if you decide to cancel.
I am so addicted to this show, perhaps because I actually had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hyneck in the 1980’s. I only have one complaint, the music at the end of the show when the credits are rolling by, is the same music from the cancelled show Almost Human. Its identical. I wonder why know one ever picked up on it. Its the same Canadian company who did both. Anyway, Kudo’s to all the actors and screenwriters. Keep it coming!!!
Great! Luv this show!
Watching Season 1 now and love it. Glad there will be a Season 2.
Love this show! It’s a blend of XFiles and Fringe. Glad it was renewed!
This is a great show. I am so glad there will be a Season 2 also. Good job for the History channel.
I love this show. It goes too fast and I’m left wanting two hours of this show per episode. One of the best shows on TV now.
