Last summer, the Peacock Network released a horror series, Midnight, Texas, and while it didn’t burn up the Nielsen ratings, it did well enough to score a season two renewal. This time out, NBC is introducing the science-fiction TV show, Reverie. Can it lure in enough “genre” fans to earn decent ratings and earn second season pickup? Will Reverie be cancelled or renewed for season two on NBC? Stay tuned.
An NBC techno-thriller, Reverie stars Sarah Shahi, Dennis Haysbert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu, Kathryn Morris, and John Fletcher. The drama centers on human behavior expert Mara Kint (Shahi), who retired from her career as a hostage negotiator, after a personal tragedy. Her old boss, Charlie Ventana (Haysbert), has now tapped Mara for a mission to save regular people who have essentially lost themselves in an immersive virtual-reality experience, which lets them live out their wildest fantasies and most dearly held dreams.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
8/9 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Reverie TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
*11/7/18 update: NBC has cancelled Reverie so there won’t be a second season. Details here.
Just finished season one and I loved it. Mara is stunning and the cast really works well together.
Ouch this show needs to get canceled.
Please renew this show. That it has found a following during these summer months means it is sure to do well in the fall. Well acted, well scripted and an interesting premise!!
Love this show!!
My husband and I are enjoying Reverie. It’s a great summer replacement. We would certainly continue to watch it if could be renewed for its current placement. Sarah Shahi is a favorite. We enjoyed her in Person of Interest, and we’ve missed her. Dennis Haysbert makes every show better. Sendhil Ramamurthy and Kathryn Morris don’t disappoint us; can’t think of when they ever have and we’re getting to know Jessica Lu. Put 2 votes in the “renewal” column, please.
I really enjoy the show. Hope it gets renewed
I love this show. I watch with the NBC app so it had better count toward ratings! This show is unique, has heart & imagination!! Please keep making it.
Please don’t cancel… They need to increase their AGE block of watchers. I am in my late 50s and stream this show!!! And I still have BUYING power
Wake up Nielsen and who ever else tracks
My wife and I love the show! Finally, we have a show that is intriguing, fun, inspirational, clean and a “feel-good” show that we don’t mind encouraging other friends and family to watch. Please keep this show on the air and give it some time for word to get around. This is the kind of show that so many of us are looking for!
Here’s my biggest problem with Reverie: From the perspective of a business model, how could the providers of the service, Reverie, create an experience in which the users/customers are the ones who determine how long they stay there, even to the extent of putting their lives in danger? That’s just ridiculous, but it’s a central premise to the show — the users won’t leave, so Mara has to go rescue them. Whaaaatttt? I guess it doesn’t matter much, though, because per the ratings I’d be very surprised if we see the show again after its 10-episode run in completed.
I’m really trying to like this show so could you help me out? What’s up with Rachel seeing the ghost of her dead daughter? She’s a smart woman and she knows her child is dead so why does she continue to chase and scare little girls? She’s out of touch with reality. Hopefully she will finally report this oddity to someone. How does this ghost scenario fit into the show? thanks
Not her daughter. It is her niece. Don’t know yet the answer to why she sees her.
I agree with a lot of what I’m reading here. I want to like this show – and I do like it, it’s just that I don’t love it. I hope it gives me reason to love it, soon.
Found the first episode so-so, definitely did not drag me in. I think VR5 from 1995 was a better take on this idea. I’ll stream the second episode when I can (I don’t have cable TV) but if it doesn’t pick up, this show will be off my watch list.
I thought it was pretty good. Not earth-shattering awesome. Will have to wait & see where they take the plot. I like the characters so far, which helps.
I want to watch it, but including this show, i have 4 things recording on my dvr, at it’s time slot. It needs to be on a different night of the week, imo.
I watched the first episode last night and while I enjoyed it reminded me of the early episodes of “Touched by an Angel” and the film “Inception”. It’s good to see Sarah Shahi back on the TV. That being said this show will definitely stretch the writers’ creative juices in order to have multiple seasons of the show.
