TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)

What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
Please don’t cancel…this show is great and very current. So tired of the “cop” shows and “medical” shows.
Please don’t cancel the show.
Rise is excellent! I LOVE it!!! Rise is reflective of current day life experiences and very real and entertaining. This show is deep and meaningful. Please do not cancel it.
This show should not be cancelled. I am 68 years old and I really enjoy watching Rise. The last show of the season was especially good. Shame on NBC for cancelling this show. I think some of the reality programs should be cancelled instead.
This show should not be canceled.
I truly love this show! I am shocked that it won’t be renewed. It deserves a second season. Please give it a chance!
I thought this was great. fresh, creative and featured such talented young performers.
but as with “smash,” a similar show, the network (I refuse to even spell it out here) canceled it. “this is us” is the ONLY program left to care about on their crummy network. moral of the story: don’t get attached to anything there. soon we will have only reality competitions of all stripes. i’ll be watching pbs and documentaries, but I’ll NEVER again watch another scripted program on this network.
Please don’t cancel this!! I love the characters!! I loved the diversity!! And it’s not a damn medical drama!!
Please, do not cancel. Uplifting show in today’s climate.
I love this show!! please don’t cancel
I hate to see you are going to cancel this show,it was really good, please reconsider
Loved the show! Couldn’t wait until the next week’s episode. Very sad to see it was cancelled.
I am so sad and disappointed that Rise was cancelled. It was an outstanding drama, touchingly relevant and honest. The storyline was engaging and the characters were portrayed by an outstanding cast. I am so hoping it will be picked up by another network.
Please do not cancel a quality show like Rise.
It has a superb cast as well as excellent writing
deals with real issues affecting high school students as well as their families
Please do not let a quality show like Rise come to an end
That would be a grievous mistake.
As a High School student I feel I need this show. Alcoholism, Sexuality, Broken Families, Foster Care, being Transgender, Dying family members. It’s everything nowadays and more. I personally need this show. I’m Christian and Pansexual. This TV show is real. Unbelievably magnificently real. I don’t know why it was cancelled or why people dislike it. The actors must relate to their characters in one way or another to make it seem that real. I felt it all. I cried when it felt right, I got mad when needed, I was happy when deserved, but most importantly I was always… Read more »
Great show! It brought attention to what so many high school kids are really going through. It also gave hope to the truth that they are not alone. A lot of talent and very entertaining too!
A super series with excellent casting, writing, and acting. If it is cancelled, NBC will have failed to keep an excellent series.
