TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)
First aired: May 15, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
Just watched the 1st series as I just found out about it! It was amazing! So sorry that it isnt moving forward so well produced. Please give it a 2nd chance
very upset that this show has been canceled. it was a very insightful show that i enjoyed watching with my 19 year old daughter. very bad choice on nbc part
Very depressed that RISE was canceled! I looked forward to it every week-the story lines and cast. Please reconsider and give the show a 2nd chance. That was so rotten to stop the program just when people were getting into the stories! NBC PLEASE BRING BACK “RISE” AT LEAST FOR ONE MORE SEASON-the cast and followers of the show are worth it!!!!
Can’t believe NBC cancelled this show. I absolutely loved it and was anxiously awaiting season 2. PLS rethink decision!!
Wow, Wife and I had taped this show and not watched it until Today (July 12,2018) Could not believe this show has been cancelled. Great cast and great storyline. NBC has lost it.
OMG what a great show….why of why would you not renew?????/
Hoping that NBC realizes just how special a show they had in “Rise,” and rethinks their decision to cancel it. Every show was special and emotional, and there has been nothing like this on tv for quite some time. Please bring back the show!
I want to see more Rise! I thought it was a great characterization of musical theater and problems that all schools walk with. Please bring it back!!
RISE is fantastic! We never missed an episode. It had heart. We need shows like this. The acting was incredible. It’s for the entire family. Please bring it back for a second season.
I love this show. Was one of the only series I cared to watch all year. It is very good with many current issues touched on as well as portraying all the wonderful things theatre/the arts can do for our youth and beyond. Very sad this has been cancelled and other garbage shows continue.
Absolutely horrible decision by programming. Great cast, writing and story lines with the performing arts and the controversy. I don’t get it. Shaking My head in disappointment.
My wife and I, ages 70 and 68, binge watched the series and enjoyed every episode immensely. We are so disappointed that nbc made the horrible decision to cancel it. It’s rare that a program today gives such insight into our life making decisions. Please bring it back.
I just watched all 10 episodes this weekend and I loved the show. Why cancel such a great show? We don’t need another “reality” show………
I love this show, why would NBC cancel a great show and cast? Please NBC listen to your watchers. Do not cancel this and try again this fall and you will find out it is a hit!
Please keep this show alive! I just started watching this “on demand” this summer and loved it! It’s great family fare; I just don’t think too many viewers saw it when it first came out. It deserves another chance, maybe with a little promotion!!!
