TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)
First aired: May 15, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
I’m really missing this show! I was hoping it would somehow become un-cancelled!!! I only have one other show I watch. This one was so good. Please get the higher ups to reconsider!
I loved this show. So sad that it is cancelled. Reminded me of a modern day FAME. So disappointed.
Great show and disappointed to find out it was cancelled.
cannot believe this wonderful show is cancelled. it was wonderful. what is wrong with NBC
this was a great show….what is wrong with NBC. I am 69 years old and loved it.
Great family show we watched with the kids…..they are very disappointed, as am I….
Can’t believe this was canceled, hope another network is smart enough to pick it up!
Finally a good TV show and they had to cancel it! I am very unhappy about it. Too many stupid reality shows that should go
I am incredibly sad that this series was cancelled. I’m amazed at the series that are kept on and yet this touching and interesting series is cancelled. I loved all of the characters and story line—it’s sad that so many family series are let go of.
I am terribly disappointed that this series has been cancelled. This was a program that my son and myself enjoyed watching together, something that happens very seldom in today’s world. I certainly hope that NBC reconsiders this decision or that another network picks up “Rise”, as it was a show that addressed topics that were very relevant in today’s society.
Really good show
Hope amazon or Netflix picks it up
I enjoyed watching this show and would have liked it to continue. I watched the last episode I recorded last night and was anticipating another season. I am disappointed to say the least.
I was stunned to hear that NBC had cancelled Rise! This was TV at it’s best. I rarely watch network TV as I view it as a vast wasteland. However, I was a fan of This is Us and began to watch Rise as it followed at 10. I was immediately hooked by this powerful, thought provoking drama. Everything about it was superb, the acting, writing, character development, etc. Please NBC, reconsider your decision, I know you won’t be sorry. We desperately need QUALITY programs, not the junk we have now!!
Sickening to learn that this was cancelled. Excellent show !!! Very disappointing to hear of cancellation. Very disappointing… 🙁
This was one of the best shows on TV in recent history. I read the book on which it was based, which led me to watch the show. I sincerely hope it will be given another chance because it is important in today’s society. For the network to cave to a handful of people who did not care for its content was a great disservice. Shame on the network, especially considering the garbage that is shown on that network and many others.
One of the best shows to come around in many, many years and we must find a way to bring it back!
