TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)
First aired: May 15, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
Love this show!!! Please renew!!
I’m offended that they made Simon’s father, the main person denouncing the show, out to be a hypocrite. (Complete with the image of the Blessed Mother and Jesus behind him.) All too often in today’s media, Christians are being bashed. I would have had a lot more respect for the show if they had just used his character to point out that some people sincerely had moral standards that they stand by. I’m tired of one more show where the Christian character is the “bad guy.” In my opinion, the show should be cancelled. It just stirs up animosity towards… Read more »
Perhaps they made him out to be a hypocrite because you find this in many religions. I have seen this way to often in my own family. They preach one thing yet do just the opposite. In my opinion the show has storylines just like things ore. Please KEEP the show.
As a Christian myself it’s not true, plus they had said that Simon’s family is Catholic and not Christian. It is quite accurate. I’m 16. I’m also Pansexual, but I’m too afraid to come out to my church because they all think any sexuality except being straight. Which yes I get is said in the bible but this is the 21st century and people are still too judge mental. I watched a video of the LGBTQ+ Parade and these Christians. Real, God believing Christians were being absolutely horrible saying stuff like “God doesn’t love you” and so on. So yes… Read more »
Love this show! Please renew! Great real life stories! Great actors!
Please DO NOT cancel. I’m telling everyone about this–best show on tv!
Love this show! Real life and issues to talk about. And who doesn’t love a musical here and there?!
This show just needs some more time to catch on. However, I do think there was lots of heavy duty themes thrown at viewers. Maybe I’m naive but high school kids are still young and I would think the drama teachers would certainly understand how parents and other faculty would question the appropriateness of this production even though it does address relevant topics, Etc. Maybe too much, too soon, and to fast??
This is light stuff compared to what is going on in HS. It was spot on.
I thought it was thoughtful, raw and impressively acted. Hope they renew.
I look forward each week to watch the series “Rise.” The students, teachers, and parents encounter problems that are realistic. Teenagers who are trying to discover who they are. I love the singing. Please do not cancel this show.
great show, story lines, cast and fun and very real, love seeing rosie Perez on tele she’s fun, Hope we get some more episodes
I love this new show and hope it will not be cancelled
One of the best new shows to show up in the tv marketplace in ages! The thing I like best is the community spirit for this town, which is so like so many small towns across America. The cast is excellent and the singing beyond belief every week! Do not cancel this show!
I LOVE this show. As a retired high school teacher, I’m a sucker for shows about teachers and teenagers. But this! Wow!
Love it! I’m an educator and it is refreshing too see real life battles portrayed in high school. Transgender, gay, broken families. Thanks for being honest!!
This is great family entertainment! We watch it with joy! Please do not cancel.
I really enjoy this show, the most refreshing show on television. Having been involved in high school theater, I find the honesty and reality inspiring. I am looking forward to season two.
I love this show!!!! It is relevant to parenting /teenage issues of today; the acting is superb. Not surprising as I so love This Is Us…same quality of topics, acting etc ….keep up the good work…and please keep this show going.
