TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)
First aired: May 15, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
one of the absolute best new shows and you are cancelling it. STUPID
NBC-Change your minds. This is one of the best tv shows on the air. Rethink this please. If you can have3-5 hours a week of THE VOICE ( which I like), surely you can spare an hour for RISE. Can’t you?
Surprised that Rise is being cancelled. We thought it was the best of the new series that we watched. Music was great, characters interesting and very different. We loved Glee and Rise fits in the same category.
Can’t believe that Rise has been cancelled – such a great show, one of my favorites. Talks about so many real life circumstances, hopefully they will change their mind or another network will pick it up…
I love this show and truly look forward to each episode. NBC is making a huge mistake. Good dramas take time to find their audience, and this show already has devoted fans. If it’s given a chance the word will spread. Please don’t let it die……….we need to know what happens to these amazing characters.
This show is outstanding. I am so disappointed that it won’t be continuing. I hope another network will pick it up
Really, NBC…..why? This is a wonderful, heartwarming show. No guns or violence – which too many shows have, these days. I was devastated when Glee was cancelled and have loved this show and getting to know the characters. Amazing young actors/actresses – beautiful voices. Cancelling after one season is ridiculous! At least give it one more year…..then decide.
WHY?
Cancelling this exceptional show is a tragedy because it is absolutely outstanding. I hope NBC reconsiders this decision or some other network picks up this series. We need more quality TV shows like “Rise”.
So sad to hear that Rise has been cancelled. One of the best shows on TV.
Very sad to hear that Rise is being cancelled. I watched this season with my daughter and it was a great way to start a lot of dialogue on real life topics. She’s in high school and is in theater and also is sad that the show is ending before it really even began
This show I think fills the void that Glee left behind. I agree though the story line is current and such current issues with LIFE in general.
There is so much inspirational underlying messages within the story line.
Great show I hope they keep the series going.
Our daughter loves watching this show with us since she is involved with the drama department in High School. It provides great boding time for our family.
I LOVE this show.Very sad to see it cancelled!!!!!
I think it is terrible Rise was cancelled!! Finally a show with morals, story and subtance – and the networks give up without trying to help it to succeed!!!??? Ugh – the reason TV is becoming more and more unfavorable!
NO, NO, NO! I hope viewer protests can bring back Rise for sa second season.
