TV show description:
Based on the Michael Sokolove book, Drama High, the Rise TV show comes from creators Jason Katims and Jeffrey Seller. The drama centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to the real teacher from the book, Lou Volpe.
Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he has enlisted for a whole lot more than he originally expected.
By changing the musical to the provocative “Spring Awakening,” and casting performers other than the usual subjects, Lou stirs up controversy that doesn’t end at the auditorium doors. The ripple effect washes over not only the program’s assistant director Tracey Wolfe (Perez), and the kids, but also football coach Sam Strickland (Tippett).
As the changes take hold, soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school. The drama explores the idea of finding inspiration in unexpected places.
Series Finale:
Episode #10 — Opening Night
During opening night of “Spring Awakening” personal crises and dilemmas percolate in the wings backstage as Simon (Ted Sutherland) struggles to overcome his biggest fear, Lilette (Auli’i Cravalho) withholds a huge development from Robbie (Damon J. Gillespie), Robbie has a momentous breakthrough, and Tracey (Rosie Perez) draws a line in the sand. Over the course of one evening, decisions are made that will change Lou (Josh Radnor) and Stanton Drama forever. (Courtesy NBC.)
First aired: May 15, 2018.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
I totally enjoyed the first season of Rise. It was interesting, entertaining and well produced. I would love to watch another season. Please reconsider.
Excellent show Which in turn says that the executives have to cancel it but let’s do one more season of the blacklist!
This is Glee with so much more heart and feeling.
No, should NOT be cancelled! This is an important TV show that represents diversity of American families and lifestyles, passion for accomplishment,
and pushing through difficulties and challenges. I loved watching this series and would be so disappointed if it was not renewed!
Well… Unfortunately Comcast has to listen to ratings. Dismal viewership means no ad revenue which means no money being made and the Network flounders. Doesn’t matter if the series is “important” or well written. If no one watches, what’s the point? Also, on tv there are a dozen shows like it. There’s also only a very small amount of people that could relate to this one of the many. I was in high school theatre in a sports centric high school (I also participated in baseball and football.) and there was never a time where there was any conflict between… Read more »
I’m just curious to know the names of the “dozen shows” like it. didn’t know that. and I never experienced some of the topics covered in this show, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t enjoy it. never was queen of gb either, but I love “Victoria” on pbs.
great show should definitely been renewed
Terrific show should have been renewed. This show inspired me
This was the best show on T.V. I will urge everyone to cancel N.B.C
I believe not that many watched it to affect NBC. Especially since they still have Blindspot on. That’s baffling.
I saw the writing on the wall with this one. Having Comcast give it a full season means they gave this show an actual leg to stand on to try to get it going.
You should be happy that Comcast gave you a full season. Other networks would have axed it after the first episode with how bad the ratings were.
Rise showed the reality of the lives of the students and the teachers . It is a magnificent show. The cast was wonderful. The show should be renewed. By canceling the show states that students and teachers are not important. They are very important and it takes a good teacher to reach a student to succeed, work hard, believe in themselves and never quit. By canceling Rise is a mistake. It is one of the best truthful and hopeful shows available on tv. Please do not quit on this show.
How does this show equate to Comcast not caring about teachers or students because they gave this series a full season and giving it a chance to catch on over axing it after the first episode which the ratings warranted? Calling this show one of the best truthful shows on tv is a stretch of logic. You are comparing it to This is Us. Rise was not this is us. All it did was perpetuate 1950s stereotypes and sensibilities in a world where things that happen in the show just don’t happen anymore besides in the hopes and dreams of… Read more »
Please don’t cancel this wonderful show which is all about social justice.
We loved it. Such a great series especially for our time! Shame on NBC
Shame on NBC. Great show. Good social commentary.
This is such a great show and there are endless topics that can be presented – especially with all the violence in schools today!
It is a wonderful show. I cannot believe this quality show has been cancelled
Shame on NBC
How can this show be cancelled? It is amazing and one of the best shows ever to air on TV with a fantastic story line. I can’t fathom not being able to find out what happened to all of the story lines. I’m completely disappointed in NBC for cancelling this series and implore NBC to please bring it back for season 2… it will go on for years if it id’s given the chance!
No one was watching the show. Shows have to have viewers to get ad sales for both the company (Comcast) and the local affiliates.
Doesn’t matter how good a handful of people think this show is. If Comcast isn’t getting advertisers and it dies way behind reruns of The Big Bang Theory on TBS, it’s not going to be renewed.
Comcast probably did give it a chance with letting it finish it’s season. Can’t just beg for them to being a show back that no one watched or cared about or found it realistic or relatable.
Although the issues are unpopular, the acting and the script are exceptional. This show should be renewed
The issues we’re not realistic and relatable. We don’t live in a quasi modern version of the 1950s. It also doesn’t matter if the acting was good or the stories engrosisng, no one watching it means no one is making money. Can’t just force a show on TV out of altruisim and have it not affect other shows because no one’s going to want to watch bumper commercials and dead air and test patterns every 7-10 minutes. Comcast’s NBC would become even more of televisions laughing stock.
I thought the show was very good. The fact that it touched a lot of different issues that teens and parents can relate to, not only makes it an already enjoyable show, but shows everyone that they’re not the only ones that go through similar issues. Do not cancel the show!
