Sabrina and Archie might not might for awhile. Syfy reports Netflix’s upcoming Sabrina the Teenage Witch series won’t crossover with Riverdale anytime soon.
A spin-off of Riverdale, the scripted drama “reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft.”
On Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast, co-host Chris Hayner said he spoke to CW boss Mark Pedowitz, who revealed Riverdale and Netflix’s Sabrina series won’t cross over in the near future:
“Based on what [Pedowitz] said, they’re completely focused on getting Sabrina off the ground on Netflix and not thinking about crossovers at all. But they’re [sic] hope there might be a possibility in the future. But they want to establish Sabrina as its own entity on Netflix before they even start thinking about it, which makes sense.”
Netflix has not yet released a premiere date for their Sabrina series, but it has been announced Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka will be playing the teenage witch.
What do you think? Are you a Riverdale fan? Will you watch the new Sabrina series?
I thought Sabrina takes place in the 1970s, so how could there be a crossover?
