ABC Family has decided to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.
In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).
Things change when Patrick’s former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David’s previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn’t want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who’s a rising star on her own.
The show debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making Ruby the second best sitcom launch in the network’s history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and the sitcom lost steam in the following weeks. While the network has renewed 10 Things for another 10 episodes, ABC Family has decided to dump Ruby after one short season.
The final episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the episode, titled “Smells like Teen Drama,” Jordan and Ruby compete for the attention of the same girl. Privileged’s Lucy Hale guest stars as Ruby’s best friend and Jordan’s new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ben is being bullied at school. David and Patrick want him to fight back while his mother has a very different point of view.

I love that show one of the best in seen in years, my whole like it that gotta count for some thing, so they shouldn’t of cancelled it
It started out great with a super funny show the whole family could watch, my kids were hooked, then they made the BIG MISTAKE and every episode had adult content. Just not ready to talk to my 6 year old, my 11 year old yes, about being gay, getting it on the kitchen table, etc. What the hell happened to ABC Family, it should be ABC PG-13 Family. Stupid mistake, the show would have been huge, my kids were hooked, they wanted the music, etc. Remake the show with FAMILY friendly episodes and it would last years!!!
i absolutley loved this show my sister and i would always weatch all the episodes! Austin Butler made a great “jordam” i mean he was cute and funny! and alexa vega was a great singer/actress! i hope that abc changes there mind sure ten thimngs was good but it didnt even compare to ruby..
I really like Ruby and the Rockits. It has great plot and great music. It’s really nice that this sitcom combines the issues between family members and among teenagers. It’s the complexity that makes it so special and intriguing. Among the sitcoms that are on TV nowadays, I would say this is my favorite one. And I would like to see more of it.
Wow…really sorry to hear that! It was actually really really well written< with David Cassidy and the two sons doing terrific and funny work. My family and I loved this show and instead we will get another insipid ABC piece of junk. What a (typical) shame!
ABC! Good job… this show had no potential what so ever… and the acting… ohh the acting was just plain BAD! I’m very please with ABC for canceling Ruby and The Rockits and Keeping 10 Things I Hate About You 😀
This should NOT have been canceled, i absolutely loved it!! I wish i could find out what happens next—If Ruby becomes a big star, if she realizes that her cousin is in love with her, if her father is really her father, and so much more! I can’t believe they did this!? They didn’t even “close” it, they just gave us one more episode (that made us expect another) and then left us there, scratching our heads and wondering: “What happened?”

what was going on in their head it was a hit right from the start gr8 cast gr8 plot and funny it was a tv show that got better every episode it was musical and great i am very dissapointed
RUBY AND THE ROCKITS is a great family show and brings lots of laughter to our family! My children are aged 16, 13 and 9 and they just LOVE this show!! I also enjoy watching this show too and was very disappointed to find out that it was cancelled. This show has so much humour and it’s so nice to finally watch a show that is really well done and family oriented. The Cassidy brothers have done a wonderful job on this show and it’s a real shame that we won’t be able to see any more episodes. Can’t someone… Read more »
Dear ABC, Please put RUBY AND THE ROCKITS back on. It has a great cast and great plots. I think it wasn’t advertised enough and therefore many people including myself who loves the Cassidy family and Shirley JOnes, weren’t even aware of it until recently. Thanks so much. Sincerely Sarah
