What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the Spike cable channel, The Shannara Chronicles stars Austin Butler, Ivana Baquero, Manu Bennett, Aaron Jakubenko, Marcus Vanco, Vanessa Morgan, Malese Jow, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie, and Desmond Chiam. When season two kicks off, chaos has overtaken the Four Lands. With the population afraid of the return of magic, a body called The Crimson does not hesitate to intimidate anyone as it hunts down magic users. Meanwhile, in the wake of his losses, Wil (Butler) forsakes his destiny to become a healer. However, after the mysterious Mareth (Jow) saves him, he returns to the struggle.
Season Two Ratings
The second season of The Shannara Chronicles on Spike averaged a 0.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 246,000 viewers. Compared to season one on MTV, that’s down by 77% and down by 72%, respectively. Learn how The Shannara Chronicles stacks up against other Spike TV shows.

Telly’s Take
Based on the ratings, things already didn’t look good and then they started airing two episodes a night which smelled like a burnoff. The Viacom execs have been shuffling programs on their channels (including BET, CMT, TV Land, VH1, and MTV) so they may be okay with this big dip in the ratings as they try to establish the new Paramount Network. I’ll keep a hungry eye out and will update this page with breaking developments (and, hopefully, my supper plans). Love love love Shannara Chronicles. Really hope they renew for Season 3 and many more. Terry Brooks started 1977 writing about the Shannara world. I’m sure there’s another season 3 or more … 😉

I love the show, and it’s only getting started. I really hope if they don’t keep it that they can at least shop it to another network like SciFi or WB or heck..even HBO. GOT is on hiatus for a bit. Just think what the viewership could be if this was actually promoted! I agree with others that it wasn’t highly promoted on other channels.

The shannara series is amazing And the script and the story above and more wonderful
The only problem is that the duration of each episode can be longer and the duration of the series can be longer
I love the series! I have read some of the books(not all of them yet). I think it is a pretty good adaptation of the story line. It strays away, but oh well, it adds something new! I wouldn’t want just a carbon copy of the book. I already know that storyline. I really hope they renew for another season. I also think the bad ratings were the change in channels. I didn’t even realize they had left mtv until season 2 was already fully released!
I love the books. I like the show too, even with the story changes. Season two was interesting, seemed like the network is trying to kill it though. They didn’t promote that it was starting the season 2 very well, almost missed it. Found it on accident looking at Spike on demand for something to watch. Missed the first 2 nights. While they did double up the episodes per night, they also increased the commercials. It seemed to be about 50% of time if not more favoring the commercials.
