On Sunday night, ABC aired a new reality competition series. So, how did Shark Tank do? Did it succeed in the ratings or was it eaten alive by the competition?
From The Apprentice’s Mark Burnett, Shark Tank gives budding entrepreneurs the chance to make their dreams come true. To do that, they must convince five tough, multi-millionaires to part with their own hard-earned cash and give them the funding they need to jumpstart their ideas. The five are Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John.
But the show’s not as one-sided as it may seem. The business people are looking for solid investments and, once the “sharks” find a project they like, they negotiate to take as big a percentage of the profits as possible. How far is either side willing to go?

After weeks of promotion, Shark Tank debuted on Sunday, August 9th at 9pm. The premiere attracted an average of just 4.23 million viewers with a low 1.3/4 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. The first half-hour was in fourth place for total viewers and the second half-hour rose just a bit to place in third. The entire hour was in fourth place in the all-important demographic and lost a huge chunk of its lead-in audience.
If the show continues to tank like this, it certainly won’t have much of a future on the network. ABC reportedly still has 12 episodes left to air. Six of them are scheduled to run on Sunday nights and then Shark Tank’s set to switch to Tuesday evenings. Unless the numbers get better, it seems unlikely that ABC will keep those plans.

Keep Shark Tank, it’s an interesting show, we both love to watch Shark Tank. This is the only show my husband doesn’t fall asleep.

My husband and I usually don’t like the same shows, but we looked forward to Tuesday nights to watch Shark Tank together. We hope you don’t cancel this show!
This is the BEST thing that has EVER been on t.v. , although I never saw it promoted. My mother and I LIVE for this show each week. It wasn’t on last week and it’s not on again this week, and you have just ruined the upcoming week for me once again. ABC is NUTS if it cancels this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ABC, prematurely throwing it overboard, did a lousy, unimaginative job of promoting a show, (Shark Tank), that actually had some intellectual heft to it. At each airing, there were lessons in the drama. The swirling tide of surface niceties, while the sharks circled their prey, each of whom flailed about and struggled to tread water, hoping against hope that they would be thrown a life preserver and then… now and then… deals cut, souls sold, a few would-be winners bobbing in the dark waters of ‘insufficiensea’ get conditionally offered a deck chair on the yacht of affluence. I love Shark Tank, I hope they won’t cancel it, it’s fun and very informative.
Shark Tank is the best of its genre – it’s such a fun and stimulating way to learn about marketing, negotiation, creative thinking, ingenuity, niche marketing. It’s so exciting to see each next hopeful entrepreneur … The brilliant thing about this show is that you actually empathize w/the contestants and find yourself passionately routing for them b/c they’re smart, charming, adorable, compelling… or find them offensively arrogant, pitifully naive or clueless. The Sharks are each unique and charismatic in their own way — I even love to laugh at Kevin’s rude behaviour and bluntness. LOL- I really like him.
PLEASE don’t cancel SHARK TANK! It is a wonderful show–fun, interesting, diverse and
keeps one’s attention. Not to mention the fact that it is truly about the ‘All American dream’ of being independent, wealthy, successful…we need more shows like this ABC!

I love this show. It is the only one I actually looked forward to watching each week! I would love to be in a position to be a Shark. What a wonderful opportunity to stimulate the economy, and give people the hope they need to move forward. We need this in America right now.

It’s one of the few shows on TV that you feel good after watching..You feel you learned something and you didn’t waste your time!
Please keep Shark Tank on the air. It is a great, interesting show, and if you are not a NCIS fan, which I am not, there is nothing else on tuesday nights. Thank you
We love Shark Tank!!!!!!!! It encourages you to think of new ideas. It is a great teaching tool for my kids. We watch as a family and talk about the ideas and how it was presented. Why did the Shark bite or not. Please keep it on the air ABC!!!
