Though ABC’s reality series Shark Tank hasn’t been doing big business in the ratings, the network is apparently happy enough with the ratings to want additional installments.
Each episode of Shark Tank spotlights entrepreneurs and inventors who are looking for capitol to help fuel their dreams. They pitch their ideas to successful business people Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John, otherwise known as “the Sharks.” If they’re interested, the Sharks offer to invest their own money but typically want a bigger piece of the pie than the inventor has in mind.
The series is based on a UK program called Dragons’ Den and the first of 10 episodes premiered on ABC on August 9th. The ratings weren’t anything to crow about during the summer and were expected to drop even lower opposite new fall programming. Surprisingly, the numbers have actually started to rise in the past few weeks. Though they’re still quite low, would that be enough for the network to invest in more episodes?
A couple days ago, Harrington encouraged fans to ask ABC to keep the show going. After wondering what she’d do on Tuesday nights now that the show was off the air, Corcoran wrote that a second season was still under consideration by the network.
While ABC has yet to make an official announcement, two of the Sharks themselves spilled the info this weekend. Herjavec broke the news late yesterday and wrote, “Great news – ABC has ordered more episodes of Shark Tank !!!! No air date yet – but it’s coming.”
John confirmed the news but cautioned that it was not a full season pickup. He wrote, “great news! but 5 [more episodes] is not a full season, we have to turn it up 4 them to make it a full season.” He later said that he didn’t know the airdate either and suggested they wouldn’t air at least until 2010.
UPDATE: ABC later clarified that two additional episodes would be created out of existing footage. They will be combined with three leftover installments and will be aired at a later date. There’s still no decision on a second season.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Shark Tank is coming back, at least for a little while?

As a entrapuner myself, i love this show. Bring it back its best show on telvision, while Big Brother is off
I heard about this show from a colleague and watched the first episode on Hulu.com. I’ve since spread the word about this show. This show is soooo intriguing and I’m surprised more people don’t know about it. If they would promote this as much as they do their ‘pet’ series like “V” they would probably get better ratings. This reminds me of the Titanic movie that grew primarily from word of mouth, into a blockbuster movie. The crowds became larger at the theaters as time went by, not smaller. I think this show will do the same since the people… Read more »
shark tank is one of the most intriguing shows on television, and with more advertising, will come more viewers and higher ratings. Don’t give up on the show, it is very entertaining and will prove itself with a bit of risk. Isn’t that what the show is all about taking risks to become successful. Please don’t live by hipocracy and air the crafty and magnificent show longer.
I am happy, I actually enjoyed this show… it is at least something different in the realm of reality tv. Hopefully they will not start shooting new episodes on an island or closed house set.
PLEASE….PLEASE….Bring Shark Tank back. This is MY FAVORITE TV SHOW. I have been passing the word at work to have my co-workers watch it. Just when I had them “hooked,” it was off the air? The new replacement “V” can’t compare with the uniqueness of this program. I just love the interaction and comparison of those that have made it and those who want desperately to make it. The “Sharks” are just great and so entertaining!
Again, PLEASE bring this program back.
Thanks so much.
Who do I have to scream at to help keep this show ON THE AIR????!!!!
What a refreshing show Shark Tank is, and what hope to people with new ideas…
especially young people who are sometimes facing a bleak future with the job situation such
as it is now. ABC keep this on the air please!!!!
I love this show, I think that ABC should totally keep it on!!
A smart reality show with 5 proven self-made millionaires speaking their mind and opinions with average people like you and me. I love this show!!! I hope this get renewed for a full season, but unfortunately America is more interested these days in brainless reality shows or recycled lame sitcoms with bad acting and even worse writing.
This show is relevant to ecomomy, small business and inventors! What Star Trek was to the late 60’s and Sci-Fi; Shark Tank is to the current economy and our time! Don’t make the same mistake that NBC did cancelling Star Trek.
A good show but must add interesting cross characters with good ideas like my start up a Global Hip Hop Food company along with G- Girls sort of spice it up a bit, show should target a up start generation of pre-teens,teens college students and young at heart adults.I sent in a biz plan and concept for hip hop foods ,but didnt hear from u guys whats up with that.
Please keep this show, I really look forward to watching it every week!
I absolutely LOVE this show, and as others have said, it’s far more gripping and engaging that any other reality show out there. I have to say I won’t be surprised if it’s canceled, just because that seems to be the case with EVERY show I love, but I really, truly hope they give it another chance.
We LOVE this show! Please don’t cancel! This is one show that friends come over specifically to watch…it’s fantastic!
DO NOT CANCEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
