The businesspeople of Shark Tank make some pretty clever deals on the reality show but it feels like the best one apparently must go on behind-the-scenes. Despite two seasons of poor ratings, ABC has renewed Shark Tank for a third round of episodes.
On Shark Tank, entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to pitch their fledgling businesses and inventions to a panel of millionaires to get their feedback and, hopefully, a deal than can help take their projects to the next level. The panel consists of Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin Harrington, and Daymond John.
After a lackluster freshman run that averaged a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.82 million viewers, Shark Tank was given a short season two renewal of eight episodes (plus a leftover from season one). In an attempt to shake things up and hopefully attract some more interest, comedian Jeff Foxworthy and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban were added as guest “sharks” to some of episodes.

The additions haven’t really helped the series but they haven’t hurt it either. Season two debuted with a special preview on Sunday, March 20th. It attracted a 1.9 in the demo and 6.14 million viewers. That was Shark Tank’s best demo rating ever. When it moved to its regular Friday timeslot, the numbers understandably decreased.
This season has averaged a 1.4 in the demo and 4.93 million viewers. That’s not very good but it’s better than what Supernanny was getting in the same timeslot. Considering that it costs less than a scripted series and it’s airing on Friday nights, ABC’s apparently satisfied enough with the ratings to order a third season.
There’s no word yet on how many episodes ABC will order this time, when they’ll air, if they’ll continue adding guest judges or if the format will be adjusted in some other way.
One possible guest shark could be executive producer Mark Burnett. Prior to the renewal, he told EW, “If we get a season three, I’ll personally go on it — as long as its legal… I would not be able to know who the people were pitching. When I’m producing Shark Tank I’m kicking myself, why didn’t I have a shot at these ideas.”
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Shark Tank will return for season three? Any suggestions on ways to attract more viewers (other than changing nights)?

its the best show given. keep up the good work…..
Love this show! And Friday nights aren’t that bad, get DVR :). The guest sharks were a good idea. Celebrities always boost ratings. But keep changing them up.
One of our family’s favorite show. mark Cuban was the best and they should sy bye bye to Kevin (King of Info commercials). he rarely offers any insight or is interested in offering to lend his money. Put in Mark Cuban as a regular. Season two was much more exciting with mark in the line-up. He offsets uncle Kevin’s beligerent attitude.
great show but it should be moved to Monday or Tuesday to give the show a chance.

I love this show. I think it is what america need. People who have made it big, helping others to realize their dream ( I know they only help those they believe will will make them richer),
they also give them some good advice. I really liked when they helped the fireman with his invention. WOW!!!!
I love this show, been an ardent supporter and viewer since its inception. I too, wish it wasn’t on Friday nights as I can never view it based on my social life.
P.S.
Shark Tank staff – I’m still waiting on casting to get back to me about our start-up!!!
Ratings: In no particular order: 1. The FB Shark Tank page should have the feature “suggest to friends” as I believe ardent followers would do so and more viewers would be garnered. 2. The FB page should be more interactive- fans frequently post asking about the progress of past presenters deals and although this is touched upon in a limitied basis on air, it should be available for people to see on the internet. 3. Fans also request information on where to buy the products they have seen on the show and there should be links to that information. You… Read more »
I HATE THE FACT THAT THIS SHOW IS ON FRIDAY NIGHTS! I have to watch it on abc.com…
awesome show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its like watching how real world business works in a 45 minute classroom. I’ve learned what makes a great idea, the difference between a small and big business, the beauty of licensing and all kinds of ingredients that are needed to make a business successful. If NBC ever drops it, I hope someone else picks it up, because its not only educational, but entertaining to watch.
This is one of my favorite shows. I am glad it is returning for another season.
The Canadian version “dragon’s den” is much better and has half the same cast. Producers at ABC should model “shark tank” more on the canadian version and ratings would increase. There needs to be many more shorter pitches per episode.
Dragons Den has been sold to a helluva lot of countries worldwide and obviously this is the americans version of it. UK is currently on its 8th or 9th season and Im a constantly shocked everytime I see a product dealt on this show, showing up in my life. Had a new phoneline fitted last week and an invention on DD was used to feed it through the wall. Useful reality TV at its best. (BTW ‘Money Tiger’ is the orginal concept show from Japan)
I love Shark Tank. Thank you so much NBC…you seem to get it. Each Shark has their own special qualities that leads to ripping people to shreds(rightly so last night with the t-shirt girl, terrible waste of money) but they also will jump on a deal, and the deals usually are beneficial to both sides, and seem to lead to great results I wish there were less “reality dating shows” and more like this if only you had the rights to firefly originally and even now…there were 1 milliom fans in a day that showed up on facebook because a… Read more »
FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC…one of the best shows on TV
This show is amazing, and I’m happy that it had been ordered a third season. ABC finally realizes that just because a show doesn’t have amazing raitings, doesn’t mean that the quality is any lower. 🙂
I’m extremely happy to hear this! Shark Tank is one of my favorite shows, and frankly I was surprised it was renewed once, let alone twice… Kevin O’Leary is my favorite. I love his bluntness.
