TV show description:
Unfulfilled with his life as a successful corporate lawyer in New York, Steve Sullivan (Steve Byrne) returns home to Pittsburgh for his father’s 60th birthday. While there, he learns that his Irish-American father and Korean mother — Jack (Dan Lauria) and Ok Cha Sullivan (Jodi Long) — are preparing to sell the multi-generational family business, a bar known as Sullivan & Son.
It doesn’t take Steve long to realize that he really belongs in the old neighborhood and starts helping to run Sullivan & Son. He becomes the bar’s resident “bartender/lawyer” and seeks a more meaningful and rewarding new life.
Jack Sullivan has run Sullivan & Son for over 30 years and is happy to be working alongside his son. He’s a laid-back and wise man — qualities that have helped him stay happily married to Ok Cha for so many years. She takes tough love to the extreme and lets others know what they’re doing wrong. She’s frugal so is initially upset about Steve giving up his big job but is delighted to have him back home.
Steve’s younger sister, Susan (Vivian Bang), is consumed by her one-sided sibling rivalry with Steve. He’s the golden child and Susan can’t seem to do anything right in the eyes of their mother. Still, that doesn’t stop her from trying.
Carol (Christine Ebersole) has been the bar’s resident party girl for thirty years and is more than a little forward with men. A single mother, Carol has a very close relationship with her son Owen and sometimes acts more like a frat brother than a mother. Owen (Owen Benjamin) has been Steve’s close friend since childhood. He’s not the brightest guy but is eternally optimistic and loyal to the end. He can’t seem to hold down a job so spends a lot of time at the bar, hanging out with his mom and his friends.
A no nonsense and down-to-earth paramedic, Melanie (Valerie Azlynn) also grew up with Steve and is just one of the guys. They’ve always had chemistry but have never acted on it.
Hank (Brian Doyle-Murray) has been a regular at the bar for years. His views on race and ethnicity are often inappropriate, but a source of constant amusement for the bar. Underneath his grumpy exterior, Hank is a kind and beloved member of the Sullivan & Son family.
Episode #33 — You, Me, and Gary
After their kiss, Melanie and Steve want to keep their new thing quiet, but Melanie’s nosy neighbor Gary (guest John Michael Higgins) isn’t one to keep secrets.
First aired: September 9, 2014
What do you think? Do you like the Sullivan & Son TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Bring it back! Bring it Back! Bring it Back!
Too bad it will be missed…. but that is the cooperate way. keep the cheeply made ones on and get rid of the one that acutally entertain people
I wanted the show Sullivan and son to be renewed for a fourth season. I thought it was very funny I am very disappointed
I really enjoyed the humor in this show. I wish there were more episodes involving
SULLIVAN’S sister SUSAN ( VIVIAN BANG.I thought the cast gelled together very well.
together. I was very disappointed to see this show cancelled. It definitely should be renewed.
Once again TV ex are MORONS. Couldn;t understand funny if it smacked them upside the head.(which is what I would like to do) We have been looking forward to the 4th season all spring. Major disappointment..
I thought the show was great. I like the fact that it was politically incorrect. Most people can’t enjoy honest humor. It reminds me of an updated All In The Family. I loved it.
Bring back Sullivan and Son, would watch it’s reruns over new episodes of the cartoon crap.
Sullivan & Son should NOT have been cancelled. They take that off and keep on crap like the Simpsons, Family Guy, and whatever other stupid adult cartoons are on. I never missed a single episode of Sullivan & Son. it was entertaining, loved the guest stars. This is a big loss for summertime fill-in shows since there is never anything else on.
This was a very entertaining show. Wish that it would be renewed.
This was a highly entertaining show, well scripted with great characters. I have to say it was not that unique. It’s really a new age Cheers, but it kept me laughing the entire time and should have been picked up for a 4th season and possibly beyond. It’s a pity nothing to look forward to this summer.:(
This show should have been picked up for a fourth and maybe a fifth season. Hearing this show got cancelled reminds me of Gilligan’s Island the exec’s didn’t find it funny so they cancelled it. too bad TBS.
This was one of the best shows / comedies on all of T.V., Cable or mainstream. I would love to see it renewed.
Agree this show made me laugh. Its too bad comedy’s always get cancelled. This show had a lot to offer for both men and women it would keep you laughing. Its a shame another great unique comedy cancelled.
I loved the show. My dad and I owned a small tavern and it reminded me of many things that happened to us. Will miss the show
Loved the show, can’t believe it was cancelled!!! It was unique and a real sparkle of great talent.
