Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.
Yes, yes, yes, I would keep watching this series for as long as they make it. It is well produced and it has a wonderful cast. The show comes across as authentic and as real as it was back then. I’m a baby boomer and I think the word needs to get out to the old folks. Please advertise more to them, if you do they will come.
I can’t wait for Season 2 to begin.
Great show, actors and music are amazing! Please renew.
please bring back the show, I love that kind of music. season 2 i hope it come. after watching a trailer for it i just knew that i need to watch it.
I would love to see another season. My husband & I thought it was a great series!
As I said in my post yesterday a key audience is in fact baby boomers not millennials. We remember everything that happened back then and savor every minute of it. In order to attract them as well the company should also advertise the show on networks that have a significant number of mature viewers. My wife and I never watch CMT but after seeing a commercial spot on another network we decided to give the show a chance. We have never regretted it.
I love the series. I record it and watch it on Friday nights. Every week I am sad when it ends. I was upset that it was only 8 episodes. I am going to be even more upset if it is not renewed. I quit watching new network series because they always pull the rug out when you get into the series. CMT please do not become like “them”. You will lose the trust of your audience.
you should have polled the viewers from 45 – 65 for a more accurate total number of viewers. we love all things ELVIS and ROCK and ROLL.
We hope for at least 4 more seasons of this fact based series.
Love this show….please renew it!
Yes Please Please continue to play “Sun Records” I absolutely loved watching the first series. I have a GREAT interest in watching the making of million dollar quartet and sun records. I just wish I could be a part of it… You see my grandfathers song was a part of the million dollar quartet and I was waiting for it to be played but it must of been further in time. Continue the series as soon as possible…
