Supergirl fans are still waiting on word about a season two renewal, and there are new reports that a season two may happen – but it may not happen on CBS. The series may move to CW for its second season.
The Wrap reported that Leslie Moonves, the boss at CBS, is in heavy talks with Warner Bros Television about the future of the series. The large budget for the series is causing a snag, according to the report. Each episode costs about $3 million.
If the series moved to CW, it would face budget cuts. The move would put it with the rest of the DC television lineup though. CW is already home to The Flash, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The crossover with The Flash was one of the most highly rated episodes of the season, but the ratings dropped by about half from the series premiere.
Would a move to CW, which has a younger audience than CBS, help? It is possible. It would also open the door for more crossovers to happen in the future.
Right now, no one is officially speaking out about the future of Supergirl, but time is running out. CBS and CW will lineup their schedules for next year later this month.
Do you want to see a second season of Supergirl? Would CW be a better home for the series? Tell us what you think.
I had a CBS all access subscription just for this show – bummed that I paid for this past month for nothing. Promptly cancelled that once I found this article. Just needed better/more consistent writing & directing. All the other comic book shows (other than Agent Carter) are so male-centric – this show was such a good idea if for no other reason than to break up the dude fest and give young girls an optimistic reference point and role model.
Please DO NOT cancel this show!!! It is one of the best shows ever. I have loved it from the start and would love to see more seasons!!!
Only show I watch on CBS
I think Supergirl belongs on the CW just for the fact CW holds the house for DC characters and is doing a great job with them. Plus crossovers will be so much easier and people love that and it will increase rating just doing crossovers. I think Supergirl is a great show, it started of a little slow but most shoes always have to find there way in the beginning. I think they need to back off Superman a little but I do think they ought to have Tom Welling come on there from time to time as Clark to… Read more »
If it comes back anywhere I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Supergirl is surprisingly well done and needs to be on the CW to facilitate creation of more of those great cross-over episodes! Those who are being over-critical are obviously making inappropriate comparisons or simply nitpicking and are clearly not one of us true DC fans, for whom this show has not only lived up to our expectations but also been fulfilling in a lot of ways. We know that Zack Snyder, as someone who apparently didn’t grow up reading silver-age comics about the original five justice leaguers (that’s right–Superman and Batman were not even on the team at first) and… Read more »
why do people insist CW will take this show, when they have already fixed their lineup for 2016/17. – are we saying CW will drop shows for this to happen?. why??
i understand the ‘multiverse’ logic, but with the massive budget cut, and relocation, its not looking good.
it has more options on a streaming service [probably not netflix as marvel camp there] but it then will get worse numbers … better to cut loses & dump this albatross.
Well they can cancel it if they want to … I watched 10 episodes of Supergirl and got finally bored: The acting is terrible, the FX are (already) dated and if they cut budget well it’ll be worse. Save the bucks (or use them in series worth saving).
I think it’d be the best thing for the show to go to the CW for a few reasons. First thing is the fact that the show doesn’t fit CBS. Yeah, the network has Big Bang, a show filled with geeks who love comics, but aside from a lot of markets putting pre-primetime reruns of the show on before Supergirl, the two shows didn’t share the same night. So it doesn’t really matter if they were network-mates when the network never allowed any crossover. And the theres the off topic argument of whether or not Big Bang is even a… Read more »
Agree with pretty much everything you said, but if (and as far as I know this isn’t on the table, but a girl can dream) IF there was a choice at CW between bringing over Supergirl or reviving Constantine as its own series, I would have to vote for the latter. Supergirl exists (by necessity) in an alternate universe from Flash, Arrow and LoT, whereas it’s already been established that John Constantine and Ollie Queen know each other. My dream crossover would be if Constantine ended up visiting Supernatural – or vice versa – due to some anomaly (blame Crowley?)… Read more »
I DVR all my shows, so quite honestly, I forgot it wasnt already On the CW. I think many people out there are like me, and consequently, we don’t really care what network a show we like is on, as long as it Stays on (and ends up on a network we can still watch). My sister and I love the show and have not missed an episode (though we have never seen it “Live” because like so many other shows, it’s on opposite other things we like to watch as well; hence all the DVR-ing). So, wherever it ends… Read more »
I also DVR all my shows, mainly because I can easily skip through the ads. I’m a big fan of the show, but I kind of finding the story line weak and tame.
I missed quite a few episodes of the show, but I’ve seen enough to want the series to continue.
As long is there are more seasons of Supergirl I don’t care what network runs the show.
The show is horrible, dont try to save it. Not even the episode with the Flash was worth watching the entire episode. Note that it was not even worthy of a footnote comment in the Flash. Please just let it become a bad memory.
She show is not horrible! Unlike other superhero shows, besides the flash, it had heart!
The idea of CBS cancelling the show would be the dumbest move ever. The show is enjoyable to watch and has created a HUGE fan base and they would be pissed if they done so. It is one of the best shows like the Flash and not to mention Smallville, too. If they do move it to CW just in case, then ok, by all means, as long as they make the show still fun to watch with good stories to back it up. But DON’T cancel it like that. CBS did that with other shows that were good in… Read more »
please don’t, I watched first season and enjoy it and Don’t have the CW!
Not sure if you have access to it where you are, but the CW app is free and works way better then most network apps I’ve used. When I was in a sticky situation it was the only way I was able to watch Arrow, The Flash and Supernatural. And it’s both free and doesn’t require a cable/satellite sub, so that’s super helpful too.
