The peacock network has decided to cut their season order of The Cape from 13 to 10 episodes. Production of the TV series will shut down this week, the latest sign that the show will be cancelled.
The Cape follows Vince Faraday (David Lyons), an honest cop who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family (Jennifer Ferrin, Ryan Wynott) and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The series has been a disappointment for NBC in the ratings and Monday’s numbers were the worst so far. The TV series debuted on January 9th with a special two-hour event that attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. Eight days later, episode three of The Cape dropped a huge 30% in the demo, to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Episode four’s ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers. Monday’s hit a new low with a 1.5 and 5.343 million.

The show currently averages a 1.9 in the demo and 6.46 million viewers. After just five episodes, it’s become one of the lowest-rated scripted series on the network, tying with Chuck.
For months, NBC has had The Event slated to return to the Mondays at 9pm timeslot on February 28th. When that happens, only eight episodes of The Cape will have aired. Word is that the network is considering delaying The Event for another week to finish off The Cape’s season. If that doesn’t happen, it seems unlikely that NBC will find a place to air the leftover pair of episodes.
It’s even more unlikely that The Cape will be renewed for a second season or end with any kind of resolution.
What do you think? Is The Cape doomed to be cancelled? What could have been done differently? Is it better than The Event?
UPDATE: NBC has delayed the return of The Event by one week. Episodes nine and 10 of The Cape are expected to air on February 28th, finishing the season.

I am too very sorry that “The Cape” has been cancelled. Not sure it has been given a chance. Needed more publicity! Very good show with edge-of-the-seat excitement. Wonderful story!
I’m disappointed they want to cancel “The Cape” ! I Really like it!!! I don’t have many shows that I have really been hooked on, but “The Cape” and “Harry’s Law” have got me hooked!!!! Bummed when “the Event” was in it’s place:(
I loved the cape and have not watched even one episode of the event. How about giving a series time to develop word of mouth and gain a faithful audience?
I love the Cape!
Why do they always cancel shows I like…
The ending was so weird, they should air those last episodes (11, 12, 13) so at least it will end better…
The cape might continue i hope it does!!! its a very good show
That my fav. NBC should finish the show. I love it.
i dont understand how this show wont have a 2nd season its just such a good show . It has pretty good actors a good story line and just a really good show. Please atleast do one more season and see what happends .
i really hoop the keep making more of the THE CAPE
i really love this show i want a 2nd season
I think they should at least air the last final episodes at least. I love The Cape and wish it would have been a longer series and at least stayed! Such a good storyline and great actors wasted…
I watched The Cape every mondays, nothing else good on T.V. monday nights,
another one bites the dust for “Summer Glau” I wish they have her cast in a more
successful TV series next time.
The Cape had real potential but was poorly executed. The title character, for all of his training and abilities, is a wimp in the costumed crime fighter genre. In nearly every confrontation he has had he only barely scrapes through. Granted, all heros need a nemesis that is almost too good for them to defeat. Unfortunately for The Cape, that was all of his enemies.
DONT CANCEL IT PLEASEEE
I totaly agree with you, I loved “The Cape” and will be very disappointed if they cancel it.
The concept of the cape is great, however it reminds me a lot of Sarah Conner cronicles, not because it has the same girl, but because if you want to do the show right and do it justice, you need to give the show time, and a real budget, something that nbc, abc, and cbs dont know how to do. Shows are just the thing that they use to get people to watch their commercals. Thats why even the people that think their shows are ok, dont mind waiting till the next day to watch them. While a show like… Read more »
I absolutely LOVE The Cape!!! I will NOT miss an episode to save my life! I think that canceling a show when it’s not even a full season in is stupid. Why do it? Even if it is about money, I’d give the show a little time to get going before I’d even consider canceling it. Just a question: Would you kill a baby just because it can’t stand when it’s a few weeks old? That’s just like ending a show because it doesn’t make enough money with the first few episodes!
I’m a 68 year old female and I liked The Cape………..who really votes.
I do not watch the Desperate Housewifes and never will.
I agree most of the lame shows on tv are not geared to people who enjoy being entertained by moral standards. It seems lying, cheating and adultery are valued and morality isn’t.
