The peacock network has decided to cut their season order of The Cape from 13 to 10 episodes. Production of the TV series will shut down this week, the latest sign that the show will be cancelled.
The Cape follows Vince Faraday (David Lyons), an honest cop who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family (Jennifer Ferrin, Ryan Wynott) and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The series has been a disappointment for NBC in the ratings and Monday’s numbers were the worst so far. The TV series debuted on January 9th with a special two-hour event that attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. Eight days later, episode three of The Cape dropped a huge 30% in the demo, to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Episode four’s ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers. Monday’s hit a new low with a 1.5 and 5.343 million.

The show currently averages a 1.9 in the demo and 6.46 million viewers. After just five episodes, it’s become one of the lowest-rated scripted series on the network, tying with Chuck.
For months, NBC has had The Event slated to return to the Mondays at 9pm timeslot on February 28th. When that happens, only eight episodes of The Cape will have aired. Word is that the network is considering delaying The Event for another week to finish off The Cape’s season. If that doesn’t happen, it seems unlikely that NBC will find a place to air the leftover pair of episodes.
It’s even more unlikely that The Cape will be renewed for a second season or end with any kind of resolution.
What do you think? Is The Cape doomed to be cancelled? What could have been done differently? Is it better than The Event?
UPDATE: NBC has delayed the return of The Event by one week. Episodes nine and 10 of The Cape are expected to air on February 28th, finishing the season.

I think the problem was they changed what night it was on so many times you never really new when to catch it. It was a good show though.
This show along with others is a disappointment to the American public. I just watched the series Defying Gravity which was only on for 13 episodes. Along with Kyle XY, some of my favorite tv shows are canceled for no reason without any real resolve.
It’s our family’s favorite show!! Don’t cancel.
I liked the cape. Wish it would continue.
Well I liked the show , it was better than the one that places in it’s place ! Sucks ass !
I am pissed they cancelled this show… Why couldnt they finish the season and have a happy reunion.. This is why NBC sucks and no one watches the station any more…
I loved the cape shocked it finished NBC didn’t give it enough time cause word was spreading it was a good show. Alot better than hero’s!!!!
anyhow another show that was decent is now off the air.
guess u just have to watch movies now.
this is bs, but hey if it goes it goes it seems like all sorts of shows are being canceled, but hopefully this one doesn’t go. They have a point though when they say the villains are all off they weren’t suppose to be like a comic book just based off of it. So they need to make like a comic book and just go with that and hopefully they can pull that off or they will just have to do a quick summery. Personally I think that if they do the summery it will suck big time and ruin… Read more »
I usually love the superhero stuff. I”ve always been a huge Batman fan. I watched this series with high hopes. After a few episodes I found the series to be quite “dry”. It has great potential and with a little work could be a very appealing superhero drama.
I hope The Cape is renewed and given another chance. Maybe put it on another night and see what happens. It’s very different, but exciting. All the characters are interesting. And it’s not boring. We all love it and watch it faithfully. Now we are very disappointed that it may be cancelled. I would like to see Faraday reunited with his family. That may make a difference in the ratings.
You got to be kidding me right? Why would you cancel the show? Just because it dropped 1.8million viewers doesnt mean people dont love this show ive only been watching it for two days in a row watching every episode from the beginning til the end, and now ur gonna stop it? how are you going to air a tv show then not show the best part of it all him reuniting with his family? this is why ur ratings go down u get rid of so many tv shows bc u piss people off for canceling a tv show… Read more »

Loved both The Cape & The Event. If I can’t see them, I always devo both of them! I wish they would continue The Cape with some more hopeful outcomes, like reuniting with his family, but still continuing to do crime fighting as the cape!
I love this show! It would be a shame if it was cancelled. It has great actors and a great storyline. With the current superhero craze it’s surprising it hasn’t caught on. Maybe a different time slot on a different night? Maybe if it were on a different channel. I will be very sorry to see this show go.
i aint never seen it but bring it bacxk ok chances r it will make the cut with better rating come on people ok there r shows out there that aint wo=rth a dang lol
