It won’t be long before The Crossing “crosses over” to the television afterlife. The TV show was one of the many cancelled TV shows of the 2017-18 season but clearly, this series has some devoted fans. Why won’t there be a second season?
An ABC sci-fi thriller, The Crossing stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique, and Bailey Skodje. Luke Camilleri recurs. The story unfolds in the small Oregon fishing town of Port Canaan. Tranquility there comes to an abrupt end, when 47 evacuees from a war-torn country wash up on the shore. The newcomers aren’t just any refugees seeking asylum — they’re Americans from 180 years in the future. As the hunt for the truth grows, it will change the lives of the townies and their new guests, forever.
The show got off to lackluster start in the ratings. The premiere of The Crossing drew a meager 0.94 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.40 million viewers. The second and third episodes saw significant declines and later episodes dropped as well. Last week’s installment attracted a meager 0.40 demo rating with 2.53 million.
With ratings like these, it’s easy to see why ABC decided to cancel The Crossing. It’s also no surprise that the network decided to air the final two episodes on a Saturday night.
Could the show have picked up more viewers if it had been given more time? Considering the downward trajectory of the ratings, it’s hard to make that argument. For whatever reason, The Crossing just didn’t resonate with a broad audience.
What do you think? Did you like The Crossing TV show? Would you have watched a second season of this ABC series?
Please bring it back!! Loved this show, the storytelling and cinematography is wonderful. This is excellent television! Why do some of the best shows not make it to season two?
Yes we really liked this show too! The acting superb and the writing/story line fantastic. We found ourselves excited for the expected season 2. Had not idea it was even considered for the chopping block. Please bring it back!!!
I loved The Crossing. A show with some intelligence and the actors were brilliant. Really disappointed that ABC chose to let this one go.
We would most definitely watch another season or 2 or 3…of The Crossing. We have seen every episode and they it just kept getting better, and how could you not watch it since it was from the creators of LOST!! But I didn’t like it when the characters we’re already being killed off so soon…Made me think that ABC had it just as a fill in until they could find something betterI don’t think it given enough time to really draw more fans in. I say bring it back, or maybe find another station that would appreciate it more.
Yes I would have liked a season 2. Thought it got better as it went on.
Yes. I would have watched a Season 2. I am really tired of getting interested in a TV Show and having it cancelled, sometimes even before the 1st season ends. This one didn’t even give us closure.
The I crossing was a great show, I loved it, we all loved it. PLEASE BRING IT BACK
Great show, so disappointed it’s not being renewed, shame on you ABC,
I am very disappointed in the cancellation of “The Crossing.” It’s a great show. Please reconsider. I watched all the episodes. If ABC cannot make the right decision to continue the show, maybe the Sci Fi network can pick it up.
So disappointed this show won’t be back!
Please continue this series. I am 78. So little shows I like and you want to take this one away? I just love Steve Zahn who is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. I am a new fan of his.

My husband and I loved The Crossing and cannot understand why more people didn’t watch it. It was suspenseful, very well cast and well written — much better than a lot of shows on TV, that’s for sure. We were devoted fans from the start and were dismayed to learn that it won’t be coming back for a second season.
The very answer is in your comment itself.
People will dislike watching a thing as much as it’s distant from mediocrity.
They should pick it up on another station who would appreciate a good show!
I loved the show…………ABC was stupid for cacelling it and renewing stupid shows like the bachelor and the bachelorette…………..I do not understand
No need to. They’re there for earning money, not as an incubator for bona fide art and creativity.
My husband & I watch The Crossing. There are too many shows that aren’t given a chance for those who start watching season 1 & then all of a sudden there’s no season 2. The reality shows are taking over the regular shows & they are coming out with more & more. It isn’t fair to those who can’t stand shows like The Bachelor, The Proposal, The Bachelorette, & the stupid Full Frontal, etc. What happened to funny family shows & dramas?
…But it’s very fair for getting more return than what you’ve invested.
