NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

Why is this canceled? This is a load of BULL because it is a great show. People just watch dumb crap and are morons.
This was a great show to bad NBC thinks endless talent shows work. Sure hope Netflix, picks it up.

Do you listen to your viewers who have invested time in watching some great shows you released this year? Listen to this: you all are idiots! Cancelling The Village, Enemy Within, Abby’s Place etc.
I’m going back back to not watching anything new until I find out if it’s been renewed for a 2nd season! Just tired of wasting my time with NBC.
Extremely disgusted that the Enemy Within was canceled. This was one show we waited to come on each week. FOR ONCE A SHOW WHERE A PERSONS SEXUALITY DIDN’T NEED TO BE EXPRESSED. A show that kept your attention based on great writing and excellent acting. It kept us guessing and was very entertaining! NBC you’re hanging by a thread in my household. I loved The Enemy Within…..it was well written and the plot twists were awesome. Characters were believable and identifiable! The show was a breath of fresh air. Why cancel it now?
The fact that networks rely on the 18-49 demographic is, by itself, an indication of how dumbed down their analysis is. I’m 70, my wife 67. The 18 of the demographic laughs at Mom and The Big Bang Theory because everyone else in the room does. The 49 end has a dance recital to attend. We need to be challenged by what we watched and networks metering success in the 18-49 demo is leading to bad decisions. This was a well written show and for what it’s worth we ignore the Voice completely and change to TEW at 10pm
This was a great show. Unlike most of the trash that is on TV – i.e. Kardashians, and most “reality shows” that encourage outrageous and unbelievable behavior . You finally had a show that was not a repeat of something that had run it’s course, with originality, good writing and good acting and you discontinue it !!! Very poor decision. This was one of the few NBC show I watched and now have even less of a reason to tune to NBC. Got into it late and have streamed every episode since discovering it. This is one of very few shows that keeps you guessing, is intelligent, and worth looking forward to. Well written and acted. How greedy and stupid can NBC be?
Finally found a show on NBC worth watching and now you cancel it!!! Really!!!! This is why so many people quit watching TV! Nowadays, it’s all about binge watching your favorite show! It makes your day when you can spend your weekend catching up on your favorite shows! But not anymore, NBC, I’m sticking to Netflix and Amazon!!!

Why would you cancel such a great show??!!!!! How about giving it A few more seasons to accurately collect data from viewers before canceling! I thoroughly enjoyed this show and the actors were actually believable!!! This was the first show where “sex” wasn’t the main idea of the show! Please consider bringing this show back for more seasons.
First THE BRAVE and now THE ENEMY WITHIN It looks like they do not want a show with substance and meaning. They only keep the shoes with sex and other imoralities that are a waste of time. Not Happy. I along with my whole family from ages 10 to 65 loved these 2 shows. You should be ashamed
Why is it when there’s a great TV series airing that actually shows some of the Governments underhanded behind the scenes handling of various events such as this show displays is short lived. Sure I’m a CONSPIRACY THEORIST…….however I had top secret clearance in the service and I KNOW FIRST HAND all the things HIDDEN by the Government & Military……!!!! Even though most of the public thinks things like this show DON’T REALLY EXIST…! Are they be in for a SURPRISE……..!
