NBC isn’t staying friends with The Enemy Within. The network has cancelled the freshman drama series so there won’t be a second season coming for 2019-20.
A psychological thriller, The Enemy Within stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner, Cassandra Freeman, and Noah Mills. The character-based drama centers on former CIA operative and now infamous traitor Erica Shepherd (Carpenter) and FBI Agent Will Keaton (Chestnut). In order to apprehend a looming threat, Keaton must tap Shepherd’s expertise, even though she’s serving a life sentence in a supermax prison.
The first season of The Enemy Within averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.40 million viewers. The defacto series finale aired on May 20th.
Compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows of the 2018-19 season, the series ranks 10th in the demo and seventh in total viewers. Based on the rankings, it would seem like the series would be renewed but the ratings trended downward as the season progressed. Considering that The Enemy Within had The Voice as a lead-in, NBC execs were likely not satisfied with the show’s low retention rate either.
Today, the Peacock Network also cancelled The Village and Abby’s TV shows.

I’m very upset the enemy within is cancelled! We watched every week. Excellent show. Come on……quit getting rid of the shows millions of us like, only to be replaced by a mindless sitcom. BRING THIS SHOW BACK!
Not fair to the 4.4 Million people that really watched it. Please bring it back I loved watching this show, think you would know about the ratings before the continue of the next season. Going to miss watching PLEASE BRING BACK!!!!!!

POOR decision. There are so many other shows that could be cut before Enemy Within. Kept watching for the premier before finding out it was cancelled! Like the story line, the relationships and the actors, without all the sex, language and blood! Bringit back!!
I hate that NBC is cancelling The Enemy Within! It a very good plot line and great actors. The show kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure who was lying , who could be trusted. A great psychological spy thriller. The Networks don’t realize that they rarely give new shows and chance. If they’re not hitting all their mark from the start they’re cancelled, leaving fans heartbroken with many unanswered questions!
This was one of the best shows to watch on TV . I could hardly wait to watch it. I have been looking forward to its return. I see that Keats is on The Resident. Please do something to have it returned.
Very disappointed The Enemy Within was cancelled. Why is it that they seem to cancel really good programs, but keep how shall I say it and keep it civil, really awful ones on the air.
This was my favorite show to watch. Im so disappointed it’s cancelled. Im surprised. I always looked forward to watching it and I wish they wouldn’t cancel.
This is such crap! The Enemy Within was a great drama and I was so looking forward to the upcoming season, but now so disappointed! I really hope NBC has a change of heart or another station picks it up, this was a great show that could have been so good for the long haul.
Sad that the best shows get cancelled. Was really looking forward to a second season. I hope it is picked up by another network or even a streaming service and continued in the future.
I’m so upset! I rarely watch dramas unless I think they’re really interesting, and this was one of the very few that had me on edge and wanting more. It was also a series I actively watched with my mom. Finally got into a new drama this year and it’s cancelled.
Very disappointed. Ratings “dipped” and they cancelled it. Similarly disappointed that The Village was not renewed.
This was a great show, it should get a season 2. It was one of the best shows and the characters were great. I hope another network picks it up for a season 2.
