As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

It doesn’t seem that ABC gave the show a chance. Canceling after one season just isn’t right. It was run during the summer season when many people are enjoying the outdoors instead of watching TV, so naturally the ratings would be low. I hope another network picks up this series.
I loved The Gates!!!!!! One of the only really innovative shows on TV. Who decides this stuff? Not the viewers, that’s for sure. It was the only program I watched on ABC.
PLEASE take show somewhere else if ABC is too crazy to keep my FAVORITE show!
Uuugghhh….I’m so disappointed. Just began wondering when this show was coming back and googled it. I can’t believe more viewers weren’t into it! The plot was getting so interested!!
I’m am so sad that this series was cut short. If they were going to end it then they should have at least brought the cast together to do a 2 hour finally or something…. They left too many unanswered questions. Plus if they did a finally then people wouldn’t get so upset. I watched every episode. It was fantastic with a very attractive cast. I’m really going to miss this show but I purchased all the episodes on iTunes so I can watch them again…. Just wish it had an ending……=(
WHY????:(((((((..i loved it….sigh..i think they should give it another chance…sigh..the show had such potential in it..it captured a lot of morals and values in our everyday life…Sigh..maybe they shouldn’t of premiered it on ABC channel..they should really consider premiering it on Warner channel..everyone loves Warner …sigh…but they should give it another chance…please…and plus The Gates inspired me in doing some thing..that should count for something.
Are you kidding me? I loved The Gates and religiously watched each week impatiently waiting for “next week’s episode”. I can’t believe it’s cancelled! I do not and will not ever understand why ABC and other networks continue to create uninteresting, unrealistic, consistently disappointing crap which for some reason continues for years yet refuse to continue a series that quite obviously maintained a substantial fan following and has created such a large disappointment with the decision to discontinue. The Gates was the must watch TV of last summer. I cannot believe that ABC cancelled the show. So much potential. The show was fantastic. ABC needs to have management’s head examined. Other than LOST, The Gates was the only other show I watched on ABC. I will not devote any more time to new shows on ABC knowing they will be cancelled. Shame on ABC for cancelling a GREAT show!!

I am so upset over the passing of The Gates, HELLO PEOPLE are you NUTTS! I Love this show and was looking forward to the return, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO on ABC, Thank goodness for CBS & NBC, Cuz that where i`ll watch my TV at from now on,

I was bummed to find out this morning yo canceled The Gates. I am tired of getting hooked on a show to see it canceled after one season its happen with many others through the years. See if another cable network will pick it up. It’s happened for other shows.

I swear I hate ABC they always cancel great shows. I was just looking around trying to find out when season 2 of the gates was airing and discovered that it was cancelled. I am really sick of ABC coming up with these really good shows with long story arcs but cancelling them before they get a chance to develop. Shows that have mystery and intrigue take time to unravel and develop a following. You have to give them a chance. If ABC isn’t willing to do that it should stick to the mindless shlep that can be wrapped up in 25-45 mins. Stop producing shows that keep you guessing… Read more »
I did the same thing. I went online to see when the show was coming back on. I never talk about shows much and the one time when I get hooked it’s cancelled. This doesn’t make much sense. And the other people who have posted blogs are right. There are other shows that are just horrible. This show had a great cast and story. I wonder who makes the decisions up there at ABC.
