As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

Why do good vampire shows get cut after one season The Gates, Moonlight and shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel go on for a combined 13 seasons WTF!!!!
As if it matters but the worst part of a series ending is the fact that it leaves the show (un-tied!) There are many shows that have ended abruptly that I would never purchase the series on (DVD) because its a simple reminder of wondering how it would have ended if it lasted… HEY HOLLYWOOD!!! Get a picture!!! you would sell many more dvds “if” when canceling it you would spend the time to do a 2 hour wrap up of the series like you did when you started it!!!!!!!!!!!! People want to feel fulfilled by seeing an ending!!!!!!!! For… Read more »
I am so disappointed. How can you leave cliff hangers such as this and then tell us its cancelled. Are there books out there? What ? Ugh! Makes me mad.
i loved this show. it was great to have a supernatural show that wasnt geared towards the younger crowd. i was really looking forward to seeing season two
No fair ABC!! I’ll bet you bring back “Bachelor Pad” for another season but you cancel the Gates?!? You never gave “The Gates” a chance!…Summer time, Sunday night up against 3 or 4 other established series?….and you were disapointed with the ratings? I dare you to bring the show back on any other night right now and see how well it does. This show is hot!
This is extremely dissapointing…nice how tv execs flood the stations with the same ole cop and doctor dramas but cant keep along something different and original. This show was fantastic…this is so so sad….
I was so looking forward to the return of The Gates and saddened to hear of the cancellation.
i love this show! i did not feel that abc advertised the show enough, because i came upon it by chance on hulu.
It sucks that everytime there is something different on t.v., it gets cancelled. These stations need to stop getting people interested and then cancel it after they suck people in! It’s not right….we are the ones that want it….do they ever take a poll to see if we want it to continue!! Its not always about “making money”.
That is ridiculous how can you run a show in the summer and expect to have great ratings everyone knows especially those of us in media that ratings for T.V. generally fall in the summer months because people are more active at that time.. what a cop out they should have waited til fall to show this series and I betcha the ratings would have been much higher.. It was a great show for sure and totally different from anything on T.V. I am so sick of reality T.V. it is played out!
I absolutely loved this show the actors/actresses were amazing. I love Claires roll, I want to know what happens next, so lame about being canceled. You should make a movie out if it at least. How did this get cut and crap like true blood and stuff stay around. At work the day after the show the gates would be our topic, so sad to see it go …
I’m truly sad to see this show cancelled. I had heard about it the day before it premiered and I tuned in and fell in love with the show, storyline and cast. I was really looking forward to the second season. Smh. This is a major disappointment…….;(
It is terrible that this show is cancelled!!! Sunday nights was not the best night for this series. My friends and I watched every episode. We were so looking forward to the new season. What a disappointment!
I agree that this show was a great one, but its NOT ABC’s fault to cancel it, if they do not have enough in ratings they can’t keep the show on. Everyone writing in should not blame ABC but rather the general public for turning their TVs on to the dumb reality shows and other shows that so horrible today. These are the shows that win because thats what the American public wants – at least the majority. ABC puts out great shows but its up to the general public to watch and support when the shows air. This is… Read more »
