There was speculation that The Middle might be coming to an end because contracts were up and Charlie McDermott signed on for a CBS pilot. Well, with or without son Axl, The Middle is coming back for a seventh season on ABC.
Taking place in Orson, Indiana, The Middle revolves around the Heck family. It’s headed by Mike (Neil Flynn), who manages a local quarry, and Frankie (Patricia Heaton), a dental assistant. Together, they do their best to make ends meet, have a relationship, and raise their three very different kids (McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer).
Season-to-season, The Middle performed about the same in season six, averaging a 2.01 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.64 million viewers. It remains a solid performer for ABC.
McDermott has made a comedy pilot for CBS called Super Clyde. If it doesn’t become a series, it’s expected that he will return to The Middle full-time. If the project does move forward, we’ll be seeing far less of the eldest Heck son on ABC.
What do you think? Do you like The Middle? How long should it run? Would you miss McDermott if he wasn’t on the show?
Best show on t.v. And I’m 85 yrs old!
I am thrilled that The Middle got renewed for another season! Don’t end! It seems like the writers for this show live in my house! All of the characters somehow resemble someone in my family! Sue has been a constant inspiration for my son who is going through high school. I can’t tell you how many times I have used an episode as an example for my son to get through an obstacle in school. We would definitely miss Axl as he so reminds us of my oldest son!
I love The Middle and so happy its been renewed! Always guaranteed a laugh out loud, which is way more than I can say for most other shows. Refreshing to watch a family comedy. It is funny and not mean spirited or trying to get laughs by being nasty. I love all the characters, and would miss Axl, he brings so much to the family dynamic and cracks me up everytime.
It NEVER gets old! We look forward to this show every week!!!
I love The Middle but something needs to happen now that Axl and Sue have graduated.
College kids just don’t spend that much time at home and its not the same.
I would love see a new baby come into the Heck family. Or twins.
Surely the writers must have thought of that.
I love the middle. It’s one of my favorite show!!
Love The Middle! One of the best shows on TV!
With Sue and Axl now both in college, are the cameras going to be going back and forth between two different settings (the college and their house)? I wonder how they will be integrated into the plot when they’re not home.
Love the Middle…best show on TV!! So happy it’s coming back, hope “Axl” will be back too!
I still love the show & look forward to watching it every week!!
I have watched every episode anf it reminds me of when my famil was growing up. I have 1 girl and 2 boys and I love love love it. it just hits so close to home and I would love it to continue on as long as possible, it makes me laugh and they have it to be so true. I even watch the reruns every day for at least 3 hours every day I just can’t quit watching them it’s a feel good sitcom.
Axl will be so missed on the show. I hope he makes appearances often. My favorite show on TV. I wish it could go on for many years!
Absolutely LOVE The Middle! I hope it runs as long as it possibly can; or at least to a season 9 or 10. Of course I’ll miss “Axl”-Charlie McDermot.. he is a part of the family and adds some extra ‘funny’ to the show with his crazy antics. As much as I want him to succeed in his career, I don’t want him to leave behind the place he got his major break.. until it’s seen through to the end. Kind of crossing my fingers the other show doesn’t make it (like it didn’t make it the first time they… Read more »
Love Love Love the Middle!!
I Love The Middle. It is the best family show ever. I am so glad to hear they have been renewed for a seventh season. I wish Charlie well. It is great to have be offered the lead in a sitcom and is a reflection of the awesome job he has done the last 6 seasons. All of the cast deserves to be recognized for their contribution to quality viewing. We look forward to spending Wednesday with “their family” each week. Thanks guys for entertaining us for so many years.
I love the show and will miss Axl, he reminds me of my son.
