A medical drama, The Night Shift wasn’t exactly a hit in the ratings when NBC aired the first season last summer. They renewed it for a second season and decided to give it a much better timeslot — airing behind their biggest series, The Voice. Will the ratings rise high enough to justify a third season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!
The Night Shift revolves around the quirky but devoted staffmembers of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk til dawn. The cast of the medical drama includes Eoin Macken, Freddy Rodriguez, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, Jeananne Goossen, and J.R. Lemon.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/9 update: NBC has renewed The Night Shift for a third season. Details here.

For comparisons: The first season of The Night Shift (which aired during the summer months) averaged a 1.4 rating in the demo and 6.59 million viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

Love it Please renew!!!!!!
I hope this show does not get cancelled!
I love The Night Shift! We never miss an episode! This show holds a very special place in our hearts because our son was a combat medic and was killed in Afghanistan. Prior to being deployed, he was stationed in Ft. Hood, but he completed his AIT training in San Antonio. I just means a lot to our family to see a show that not only focuses on soldiers, but specifically on those soldiers who served as medics, and the fact that it takes place in Texas is just icing on the cake. Please renew The Night Shift for Season… Read more »

I love the night shift. Its remind me of ER. There really isn’t any more medical drama. I really hope The Night Shift is renewal.
This show, while not super realistic, is so FUN! I love it! And I’m even in the medical field. I don’t take it seriously, it’s just entertaining.
While normally I don’t enjoy medical dramas (I can’t even watch Grey’s Anatomy, though I wish I liked it), this show has stuck with me. I look forward to it every week.
I really hope it’s renewed again!
